Convincing my Mom

there's also t-rex frozen snake sausage in 5 sizes if your in an area where they sale them-i think the love's mention them in the the corn snake manule-they won't distribte them in my area :(

Hey there! My bf had some serious problems with keeping mice in the freezer, but we bought one of those small Igloo coolers to keep them in. That way I just pop the mice in the cooler and then put the cooler in the freezer. He can't actually see the mice and he feels that they are safely separated from his food this way. Don't know if your mom will go for that but its worth a try...

I told my mom about the igloo cooler but she didnt buy it. She sid she doesnt want mice in her house at all.... I aslo told her about the T-Rex snake sausage but she said that made her sick... How that makes her sick im not sure but.... i think ill be able to convince her.. eventually

Just chiming in here...I wasn't keen on buying a snake for my two boys. But as a mom, I broke down and allowed it. Now I am more involved with the snake and am even getting two more hatchlings soon. I think what has made me so interested in it is the biology/science part of it. My boys are learning so much from us having the snake and they are only 3 and 5. Eventually, when we do decide to breed the snakes, it will be more for understanding the lifecycle of the snakes and some basic genetics as well.

Perhaps if you can tie owning the snake into something with school or your science teacher, your mom will realize how taking care of the snake is very educational as well as responsible. One other thing to show her how responsible you will be might be to volunteer at a reptile store to help care for the snakes. I met a young boy at a reptile store that comes in, feeds and handles the snakes a couple times a week. Good luck.

My mom wont let me get one.... She said i cant get a snake that eats mice....Are there any types of corns that dont eat mice?

I don't know that you can buy one frozen mouse. My pet store sells them in 12's, but they are in a plastic tub that has no markings on it except on the lid, so they're very discreet. Maybe you could convince your mom to get you a very small refrigerator to keep in your room, or garage for just mice.

For me I just ordered a snake over the internet and since my mom loves animals so much she wouldn't let it starve so she gave in. I think they are warming up to the fact that he is not going anywhere!!!!!! I just simply said "Mom my snake is on the way so we need to go to buy some stuff, I have the money in my pocket so can we go later?." She of course said yes. The next day he arrived and my mom has no problem with the pikies sitting in bags in our freezer in the basement. My dad watched me try feeding him but of course it didn't work. What also helps is doing researce so she knows you know the basic requierments. I hope you get this and that it helps. Keep us posted.

Green rough snakes eat insects. Only problem is alot of them are w/c and carry parisites. The snake would have to be treated just to be on the safe side. However the down fall is they don't like much handling. :(

Good luck on getting a snake.

I think that sometimes, mom's don't like the idea of a snake, but they can't find a reason that they can use without being hypocrits, so they latch onto the idea "NO MICE IN THE FREEZER" my mom did the same thing. If this is the case, then you can show her snakes if any of your freinds have 'em and/or you can direct her to this site for education :) , Getting my mom to learn about corn snakes was key in getting myself one. I know you tried this but, after she has learned more about them, gently explain to her (while she's in a really good mood) that the mice come in opaque plastic packages and won't do any harm. It took me a while, but mine eventually gave in, good luck :)

I kinda had the same problem.. although i said they'd be in clearly marked tupperware, and in the garage freezer so it's all good. She still isn't really that keen on the idea but i'm sure once I get round to getting the little tike, she will be fine with it :)
I remember when I got my land snails, she was like 'omg slimy ew gross' but then discovered that it was rather fascinating watching the 3 of them all crunching on a lettuce at feeding time :D
