Corn Snake Newbie

Sorry I should have been more clear. Would you recommend putting down newspaper between the tank and substrate to act as a barrier. If so, do I need to worry about the newspaper catching on fire? Thank you so much for your help. You guys are awesome!

No you shouldn't need to do that. I just put aspen down in about 1 to 1 1/2 inch thick layer and let it go. The snake can burrow in it that way and, trust me, your little buddy will burrow all through the aspen.

You won't have to worry about fires. If it is getting that hot you have killed your snake and there is definitely something wrong with it.

LOL thanks Gran. I got a 20L Critter Cage for $39.99 @ Petco, couldn't pass that deal up. You mentioned the UTH should take up 1/3 of the tank, no more/no less. When I put the UTH on for measurement purposes (lengthwise in the package) it takes up 1/3 of the tank, but there is a 2.5'' space behind it and in fornt of it that is not covered by the heater. When I place it the other way it takes up 1/4 of the tank. The package says its for 10-20G terrariums. What way should I place it on? I am going to adhere it to a piece of tile, so I can reuse it on another tank if need be.

I put mine so that the power cord comes out of the back of the tank and they do fine. As long as it heats the hot side to the prescribed temps for your snake all should be well. :)

Changed my mind and went with an Extreme Okeetee from Don Soderberg instead. Heard great things about him and his snakes. Should arrive tomorrow. Can't wait!

Kaa has finally arrived...

I have her viv set up in the living room next to my TV. Just wondering, should I should move 'er in another room. I am not sure if the noise and heat from the TV & movement from walking by will bother her. Plus the smell of the cage. I really like where its at though.

Oh she is so pretty :) Looks almost exactly like my male :D I think she will be ok near the TV and the movement shouldnt be a problem :)

I can't wait to handle her, she is pretty curious. She's coming out of her hide more and more and shes tries to climb up the glass a lot, she is funny. She'll sit in her hide with her head pokin' out and duck in when I get up.
