CottonBall...YOU IDIOT!

Look what she did to herself

What should I do?? Leave her and let it heal on its own? Do I put ointment on her head? I picked her up and she was pretty slow moving, but I don't know if that had anything to do with it. GRR this is SO frustrating.

I'm pretty sure I know how it happened. She likes to hide under a tree that I have set up in the viv, but because I didn't want her to hide under there, I put the tree flush up against the bottom of the tank and I'm thinking that she was rubbing her head against it trying to get under it.

What is it? is it a burn-or the result of a fall?

She'll start to cycle through sheds a little faster to replace the damaged skin and she'll be back to her pretty self in no time.

Instead of putting the tree flush against the bottom, stuff it with newspaper if you don't want her to get up there.

It doesn't have a hollow bottom to stuff it with newspaper with, its a flat bottom(Actually made out of wood)

You mean she just liked to burrow under the tree?

ohhh man isnt it frusterating when one of your reptiles is hurt and you cant quite figure it out!!! god i hate that, she'll heal in no time though

good luck

scott

It looks like the wound has gone into the flesh, so I would recommend putting a little triple antibiotic on the wound to prevent infection.

Thanks guys....I applied some Chlorhexidine to the wound and then put some neosporin on it after it dried...hopefully it will heal up quickly.

Poor little girl

Poor girl...The ointment should work well. I would just keep a close eye on it though.

:-offtopic Did you ever win that bid on the snake on reptibid??

Until she heals you might want to consider moving her to a more sterile environment, such as a plastic tub with paper towel substrate.

Great thinking CAV, I was just wondering that earlier. Will do.

Thanks,

Daniel

I didn't win...but she just put the same snake back up on Reptibid with no reserve, so I bid on it again.

This is exactly what happened to my python before he was in my care. It'll take a few sheds to fully heal, but hopefully there won't be a scar.

Paper towels is always a good idea simply to help prevent it from getting infected. Good thinking, CAV.

Poor snake... she'll be okay though. Keep us posted. :)

Daniel...I finally had the chance to look up this thread. I am SO sorry about CottonBall's injury. Just keep on doing what you are doing (like we talked about before) and she should be fine. Please keep us posted on her progress!

My Okeetee did the same thing, and I used neosporin for a while. Two sheds later, it was completely gone. Never fear, unless you get some huge infection, it should be fine.

Id say give her back her fav hiding spot when she is all healed up and just remember to check under there before having a heart attack. until shes healed though, the paper towels are a good suggestion. no point letting her get stuff stuck to her head with the ointment

She is doing well, still quarantined and should shed tomorrow or the next day. She seems to really like the small plastic feeding container. Thanks for the concern. I'll post some new pics of her injury later on today.

Thanks all!

Daniel

Here's a picture....this closeup is a testament of why I'm not going to use ReptiBark any longer...you can see the dust still all over her even after several days of her not being in contact with it...I've tried to clean off as much as I could.

No those AREN'T mites. She looks really milky because she's about to shed.

Man, that Repti Bark sticks around doesn't it?? Poor thing! At least it looks like a clean wound with no infection, you're doing great!
