My reptile vet advized me cat food.... and she is known as a terrific reptile vet in all parts of our country or at least most of it.

My reptile vet who also bred boas while in college also uses cat food when it's needed.

I like the idea of catfood, maybe after the kittenmilk has been tolerated well, but applying it might be difficult, it is pretty hard to get suitable tubes/syringes.

I'll second that chicken baby food is a good option. A better option than cat food I think. I once had a female that developed a bad case of hook worm AND pneumonia after laying her second clutch. She was one of those females that laid 40+ eggs a year and was never happy with any of the nest boxes I gave her. She would not eat and could not afford not to eat, she had lost so much weight from her clutches.
Medicated chicken baby food really brought her back from the dead. I still have the snake and she's a happy old retired grandma now.

The reptile vet agreed on not giving antibio, but testing a second
time for crypto to be sure. If she is negative, she advised to brumate
her.... cause winter time might also add to the refusal of meals. So
that is what I'm gonna do. First boost her another bit with kittenmilk
while waiting for poo and then the test.

After force feeding a pinky a couple of days ago, Freya poo-ed and today I got the report; she is heavily loaded with a type of worms and eggs the vet only knows from wild caught specimen (could be lungworm but she shows no sign of lungproblems) :puke01: Can you imagine that?! She asked if I was absolutley sure it was poo from the same snake, cause she could not believe it has been overseen twice by my regular vet and especially by herself during all these thorough tests she did.... :shrugs: Maybe she already had some worms and they multiplied to the max when she was weak.... probably my yellow rat has had the same typical wild caught type of worm but my regular vet never realised it or never mentioned it.... I guess the male corn both lady's have been living with in a viv was a wc... don't expect emoryi or yellow rat wc's over here.

Anyway, I'm gonna get 2x 0.01 ml of a special anti worm drug to administre the day of receival and 10 days later, and then she'll need another poo test to see if it worked.

Not sure if I should be happy to have found a probable cause, being a major worm infestation :eek1: It sounds so...... :puke01: they must have been 'eating' my snake cause she did not eat much to feed them... or maybe they just multiplied since I gave her kitten milk.. *sigh* I'd better just wait to see if this works and not worry too much that the worms might only be caused by her condition and not have caused it

At long last, something has been found with Freya!
I, for one, am releaved that this was found and that it can be treated.
Don't forget to keep us posted on how she is doing, OK!!??
Big hugs to Freya and to you ;)

I've found that most suggest at least 3 negative fecals before ruling out parasites. Some go thru cycles that are difficult to spot right away. Hopefully this will take care of the problem! Good news!

Well, I guess this proves that rule.... the vet knows about cycles of course but she was surprised on the vast amount of eggs and adults and everything in between she found... I'm soooo glad she decided not to test crypto again only... which she will do tomorrow by the way if I'm right to rule that out completely.

By the way, this parasite test was no 4 I realized... so I guess with bad luck even testing 3 times might not be sufficient....

why is it Si's fault? Has he conteminated you?
Yup, he's been home sick for a week :(
I hate men when they are sick, they feel sorry for themselves, they can't handle it... grrrr

To be honest, Alex does quite well.... as long as I pay a bit of attention now and then and get him drink and food if wanted, he's not drowning in self pity...
