Did he sneeze?

Hey Di, that looks like a pretty nice healthy snake to me.
I feed my snake in her viv on a piece of newspaper.
Don't worry about handling if you have to, you and your snake will probably both get used to it. I would take him out more so it is less stress when you have to.

OK thanks... the viv is 20 gal - not 100% on measurements but I think it's 2 feet wide and about 18" deep.

I think that he's going to need a new viv. Soon. It is usually said that an adult corn can live in a 20L (30 x 12 x 12) their whole life, although a bit bigger won't hurt. They like the feeling of being secure. I recently saw a 30 gallon breeder tank that was a really neat size (almost picked a few up for the snakes that I have in glass tanks, but they are happy in their 20L, so I didn't bother), and would probably be a good choice for someone who only has one or 2 corns to house (those of us with as many, or more, than I have utilize tubs and rack systems a lot).

Alan, great advice. I have a boa that takes hours and hours to eat, so I just throw his rat in with him on a piece of newspaper, that way he can take it when he pleases. This would help you if you are too worried about getting your snake out. Work on handling him more so you can work past your fear. You'll enjoy him so much more! :)

Sorry for rambling, I've been feeling a bit wordy today... :shrugs:

Edit: I agree with Alan, he looks wonderful and healthy. Nice looking snake!

Thanks Alan,
I checked out your viv.... wow!
Cheerio is gorgeous, I really liked the pic on the grass.

I know I should handle him more. He's a bit timid, jumpy, but I often just put my hand in and lightly touch him, to which he usually high tails it for a tunnel.

As I think about it, the times I do handle him are when he is really active and most likely on the "hunt". Those times he is keen to come out and will often come straight onto my hands from the tank.... as if escaping. He's very good once he's out. Very active and curious. I could easily put in some newspaper at tucker time. Thanks so much to everyone for your encouragement.

I never imagined I could be so attached to a snake. He's really heaps of fun to watch. Hubby and I got to see him actually shed on Thurs, such a hoot! I had no idea he could do it so quickly, slipped right out of his skin. I've always just come home and the skin's been waiting for me so I loved seeing it in real time.

If you think Cheerio is gorgeous you'll be floored by the Photo Gallery forum.
You're one up on me, I've never seen my snake shed. I caught the "tail end" once. My Sweetie has watched her twice.

I know re: the shedding.

As soon as I saw him come out (after over 2-weeks) I was 100% certain that he was ready, I thought I'll offer him food which often prompts the shed. So went to prepare the mouse and came back into the room to him slipping out of his skin. I called hubby up and we were super quiet and saw about half of it. He was very happy with the mouse. He'd earned it.

I'm not sure how to add friends but would welcome you adding me.

It's so awesome to be able to have input from those who've been there and done that.

I'm going to hunt down the photo gallery forum.

Friend request sent! And have fun in the photo gallery! Warning: it may prompt you to buy more snakes!! :D
