Die daylight savings time, DIE!

Be careful, Indy. Got a new bill aimed at your lazyarses. ;)

I think daylight savings time is a big hassle. But when 2/3 of your state doesn't follow it and you do, it creates even more hassle. Driving up US 41 trying to figure out when your plane leaves from Indy and what time you should be there...

Blech.

I agree about springing forward and LEAVING the time there. I like the extra hour or so of daylight in the evening. Can we vote for that in the petition?

Eww...if anything keep the Fall back! Not Spring forward! This whole waking up earlier thing...sucks.

blech

Why don't we just set it ahead by 5 hours so the sun sets at 2AM? Wooowoo!!! :grin01:

Hey, we could have "Weekend Savings Time" and move the whole calendar ahead by 2 days so that we have all Mondays and Tuesdays off, too. Then we get "more weekends!" Yay!

----

How about we set the clocks so that when the clock says noon, the sun is directly (longitudinally) overhead, and noon is halfway between sunrise and sunset. That is what noon means.

Then, if everyone wants more hours between when they get off work and when the sun sets, how about adjusting work hours so that it happens that way. The back and forth twice a year is truly ridiculous and completely screws up biological clocks.

Don't like it!

I used to like it, til I had kids. Now I hate it. Every time the time changes it takes us 2 weeks to adjust. That means that out of every year I spend 1 month adjusting to time changes. Seems like a huge waste of TIME to me.

I don't care when we have the extra sunlight, just leave the clock alone. :twoguns:

Well, that's pretty much the concept of the government moving "holidays" to Mondays. Been going on for decades.

Puh-leeze. (Besides, aren't you a tad young to be worrying about your biological clock?) :sidestep:

I agree with Terri. I like the longer sun in the evening. Gives me more time with the horses after work. I don't see any need to change it back!! You only lose an hours' sleep on one day you fools!!

Lose an hour's sleep one day? Is that why I've been dragging all week? :eek1: It isn't that one hour...it's having to get up an hour earlier every day, but not being able to go to bed an hour earlier because my body thinks it is earlier than daylight saving time says it "is".

Like I said, I don't care if you have the "extra hour" at night or if it's the schedule for the winter. Either way. What I detest is the two weeks of adjusting in the fall and 2 weeks in the spring where I either feel like I'm either working forever and getting home at midnight (winter) or getting up way too early (spring). That's a month of 12 where your biological rhythms have to be in reset/out of sync mode. If we all want the "extra hour" at night, why not just do away with daylight saving time and move the time zones an hour or make normal work hours 7 am to 4 pm. (Man, wouldn't that be nice, having "normal" work hours... :p)

Precisely the reason I hate daylight saving time. I feel like I get robbed in the winter when the days are short enough and suddenly it's dark at noon. I really miss living in Arizona and Indianapolis where they don't switch. It was much nicer. Dogs don't have to relearn when dinner time is. Time schedules don't feel off for weeks of the year. The sun doesn't set at noon all winter and the sun come up at 3 am all summer. I have an idea...lets just move all the time zones over one hour. Get the "extra" hour of daylight all year round.

Man, I forgot how much it bites to have the time changing all the time until I moved to Illinois. Note to self, time to relocate.

Are you SERIOUS Connie? Sunrise at 3 am, and sunset at noon??? :eek1:
I don't think I could ever get used to that. Of course, you could always relocate to NC, where the sun rises at 6:30 or so, and sets at 7:30. ;)

I don't understand why everyone is complaining about one hour. It only happens twice a year! It takes a day for us to adjust... Just set your clocks right and there's nothing wrong! People make such a big deal out of things that really aren't a big deal nowadays ;).

Twice a year comes a lot less often when you're 14. And adjusting your hours takes a lot longer when you're not 14. Spending 1/12th of my life walking around in a daze IS a big deal.

Agreed Serp, and you forgot to mention that waking up and trying to walk around in the dark causes you to snag your cane on the edge of the bed and fall. :grin01:

Lawmakers: Daylight-Saving Time Saves Fuel

Apr 6, 09:40 PM EDT

WASHINGTON (AP) -- If Congress passes an energy bill, Americans may see more daylight-saving time.

Lawmakers crafting energy legislation approved an amendment Wednesday to extend daylight-saving time by two months, having it start on the last Sunday in March and end on the last Sunday in November.

"Extending daylight-saving time makes sense, especially with skyrocketing energy costs," said Rep. Fred Upton, R-Mich., who along with Rep. Ed Markey, D-Mass., co-sponsored the measure.

The amendment was approved by the House Energy and Commerce Committee that is putting together major parts of energy legislation likely to come up for a vote in the full House in the coming weeks.

"The more daylight we have, the less electricity we use," said Markey, who cited Transportation Department estimates that showed the two-month extension would save the equivalent of 10,000 barrels of oil a day.

The country uses about 20 million barrels of oil a day.
