Hi there! I started the thread on "Florida Here We Come" and have now volunteered to put a "cornsnake dinner" together, therefore felt the need for a new thread. Please respond via posting a message here to let me know if you are going and if you have any resteraunt ideas. I can take it from there then when the time gets a little closer I can let everyone know the favorite spots recommended and hopefully we agree on one that can accomodate a large party. VinnyJ and I will be there and can't wait to meet you all. I am new to the cornsnakes stuff and am completely addicted. Thanks for putting in your thoughts!!! Take care!

I had to repost this for Lara. For some reason she couldn't create a poll or edit her post. I think it may be having something to do with being a contributor or not.

Great!

Looks like we are off to a good start with a good amount of people, should be fun!!!!

Hubby and I will be there, barring a hurricane or something other disaster (like no babysitter).

Sounds great we'll keep our fingers crossed for you!!!

I haven’t been to the show since it was in Orlando, but I went for several years in a row. I always made a point to go to Aunt Catfish’s, which is near Daytona.

How many people do you think we would have, and what sort of restaurant are you looking for?

I live in the area, and there are a ton of restaurants. It's really a matter of how many people and what kind of food you want. There are buffets, chinese buffets, seafood restaurants.....

Just give some preferances.

It's nice to have somebody involved who actually lives in the area. That should help.

If we get 20 or more people, which restaurants do you think would be willing and able to group a bunch of tables together for us on a Sat night (although at least it is off-season)?

Buffets are nice because everyone can find something they like there. I like anything EXCEPT seafood.

You should probably call the restaraunt and ask if they serve f/t or live. I know that some of us have issues with that. :grin01: :sidestep:

Well, we know the one restaurant that is open, even in the face of a hurricane. LOL, Everyone else is bordeded up tight, but China buffets don't close for anything.! :grin01:

Actually, the chinese buffet is called the China Buffet, and they have plenty of tables that could be pulled together. The other buffet I'm thinking of used to be a Ryans, but now has a new name. Have to check that out, but they used to have movable tables. I suspect that buffets would be most likely to be able to handle large, rowdy crowds.

I'll have to do some checking about how many people some of the other restaurants can seat. Unfortunately, some of the best restaurants I know are either possibly too small or are a bit of a drive.

As to f/t vs. live.... I suspect the cat at the chinese restaurant is fresh killed!
(Did I say that???) :sidestep:

Ryans are great!

If the place that took over Ryans is still anything like a real Ryans, that would be great! If it isn't too far from you, and you are able to get by there some time or another, please take a look and see if it looks any good.

Buffets don't usually take reservations, but maybe ask them if they could make an exception for a large group in case there is a big line on a Sat night, and so they will know to leave a large area open for us around the time we want to go. If it looks and sounds good, everyone can put in their vote on whether that is where we want to go.

Thanks!

Sort of on topic...

Even though I won't be able to make it I thought I could add this...

I know the Ryan's up here has a big sign facing the interstate that says "BUSES WELCOME!" :shrugs: :)

Will definately check it out as soon a Bike Week is over. My husband is a little too well known in the industry for us to go anywhere near Daytona during Bike Week unless he feels like answering motorcycle questions for hours. We are in hiding until Bike Week is over, but will use it as an excuse to go there to eat once the mess is over.

Hi all!

I am glad that we are getting some feed back now. I think the buffet is a great idea and I am up for that. We are not seafood eaters either so we are there with you on that Kathy. Lizard Mom if you could find out about the place that used to be Ryan's that would be great and let us know. If everyone is okay with a buffet we might as well do that I think one buffet would be just as good as another. Right now it looks like around 15 people. This will be happening on Saturday night Aug. 19th is what I thought from the get go because a lot of people may be coming in on Friday. If Sat night is okay with everyone I say let's stick to that. My poll seems to be working so please let myself or my boyfriend (VinnyJ) know if you have any questions. Thanks Lizard mom for your help!

Anytime. I'll check it out later this week or next week. I figured, too, that a buffet should have something for everyone, no matter what their taste in food.

I'm not a big seafood fan myself either (though Unagi sushi I'll make an exception for)... so count me in on the 'not seafood' vote.
