does getting bit hurt..explaination

When I went to the pet store to pick out a corn, the pet guy took out one for me to look at and hold, and the little guy immediately tried to take a big chunk out of his knuckle. All he said was, "...hey." It shocked me but not him. He tore a tiny piece off the very top layer of dead skin, but that was about it! I got a bit intimidated by his rambunctiousness, so I decided on the more placid snake...which was a great choice! She's a sweet heart.

My only fear with Haya is if and when she bites, I'll get shocked (especially since they're so fast) and accidentally hurt her by some instinctive reaction :( As far as pain goes, I've been mauled by my beast of a cat including those nasty clawed back kicks while in the kitty grip of death so my threshold of pain is probably a bit higher than a corn snake bite :p

Don't be too shocked

Don't worry, little lady (sorry I don't know your name). You'll do fine. And we'll all be here for you to pick up the pieces. Snakes just bite. Sometimes. Mostly, corn snakes don't. Just be slow and gentle and deliberate,....and never pick him up with your fingers smelling like food. He/she will learn that you "love" him/her. Routine and habit is the key.
Personally, Mr. Jangles, my largest Amel, is somewhat snippy toward other snakes and coils at me, but never strikes. He has a real zest for life and is an agressive feeder. Years ago I might have been a little fearful or annoyed at him, but actually he is one of my favorites.
Health and feeding habits tip the scales sometimes, especially when it comes to hatchlings or yearlings. A good, reliable feeder is a great thing. It makes keeping corns a great pleasure.
You hang in there. And don't be afraid or shocked. Your rewards will outweigh your troubles and concerns.

thanks for all the input he still strikes at me but ive started wearing gloves until he gets acclimated to being handled
