Dollar Store Incubator

I'm setting up an incubator, following the instructions here with a few modifications. Instead of the UTH I'm using flex watt (had some left over from the viv construction). Also I got a dimmer type thermostat (not a "real thermostat") may or may not be the best, but my bf pointed this out to me after i got it ... hopefully shouldn't be a problem, my friend will have the incubator & eggs while i'm on vacation (eggs haven't been laid yet), and she has AC so hopefuly the dimmer thing will work, next breeding season I will get a better thermostat.

I'm using acrylic for the top window instead of glass -- since I have extra pieces of acrylic already. I'll post a pic when its together. Thanks for the instructions!

Hey Rosecat,

Glad you found this usefull.

A couple things you might want to reconsider.. I would not use a dimmer or rheostat as a prime regulator of the incubator. The ice chest as has little to no air flow therefore it can heat up quickly. The Alife thermostats are really cheap and a lot safer than a dimmer- i dont want anything to happen to your eggs :) Also, i used acrylic in the past and it worked pretty good. I found glass kept the heat in better but not a huge difference. I am excited to see the final product.

Good luck!

p.s. i had 11/11 eggs hatch out of mine last month, another 7/7 that look really healthy, and i just added my first clutch of 6 African House Snake eggs to the incubator!

the problem is that i'm leaving on friday am for 5 weeks, my thermostat/rheostat ZooMed w/ 2 plugs is being used, and petco has them for twice what I paid, so unless i can come up w/ a place to purchase soemthing wihtout paying big bucks .... also i think the bf set it up w/ the dimmer thing already ... im in corvallis, or and i was also at a petsmart yesterday to get a thermometer but they didn't seem to have any thermostats either
