Is there any way we can have the edit function turned on.

This is a basic feature of any forum and without it things tend to get messy and longer than they need to.

if I post something and then think of something I want to add I have to reply to my own post which in the rest of the internet world is double posting and frowned upon.

I can really see no valid reason to have the edit function turned off except for maybe making posts falsly long since people have to double post so it looks like the forum as busier then it actualy is.

I'm not saying that's why it's turned off but that's the only reason I can see for it.
 
I refuse to PAY to be able to edit my posts if that's the way this forum is run then you can delete my account and I will go frequent one of the other many many sname forums out there.

That is no way to generate income.

Make your forum a place people want to be and want to support and the donations ll come one all on thier own.

Your choice, sorry you feel that way. This is a great forum and I'm not a contributing member. You don't have to be a contributing member to be a part of the forum. Just cannot edit posts or post for sale ads in the classifieds section. This forum has helped me a lot!

Dude, take a chill pill. If you had taken the time to look up other perks of being a contributing member you might have felt differently.

P.S. With that attitude I'm sure no one will miss you. The Give-me-everything-for-free-or-else-I'll-boycott-you mentality will get you no where in life. Edit: At least not in America.
 
Not to sound like a stick in the mud, but I'm sure the 20,000 something members here are not all contributing members. I happen to be as a choice and the fact that I couldn't edit posts before never bothered me. I learned to read my posts about three times before actually publishing them. They're like emails. Once you send an email, you can't edit it, you have to send another one. I don't hear anyone complaining that they can't edit emails.

That being said, I do understand why you would want the edit button and I do understand about the double posting. I've been on over 100 forums as a regular poster. I learned to ask myself if what I wanted to add is really important and if it is, then I wait until I get a reply before adding it. 99% of threads have replies on this forum, so the wait isn't usually too long.

Sounds to me like you are someone who doesn't take the time to think before you post and haven't figured out the concept of PROOFREADING, nor what that "Spell Check" button does at the bottom of the edit screen.

Sorry about that, but I am under absolutely NO compulsion whatsoever to do what YOU want me to do with MY site, simply because it is what YOU want.

As for this being a place people want to be and one they want to support, actually I think we are doing quite nicely in that department even without your help.

I guess it's to give an extra perk to contributors. I wouldn't mind either way, and still would contribute either way. If times were too tough to pony up $25 a year, I'm sure I'd have even more misspellings, though!

Have you guys ever belonged to a forum where you have limited attachment posting? That simply would not work here. Can you imagine the amount of storage Rich needs to provide so we can post as many pics as our little hearts desire? It's not free to run this place! $25 doesn't even make a dent in the expense, but it is a show of support that is appreciated. Private forums also help support the site. Members' advertisements also help support the site. Every little bit helps; it all adds up.

Fortunately, your inability to see my logic doesn't necessitate that I use your logic instead. ;)

And you are not making a mess of the entire forum, only a mess of YOUR own posts by not proof reading what you wrote. So who exactly does THAT reflect upon? :laugh:

To counteract your crybaby attitude.... I just ponied up the money for a contributing membership. I was going to do it anyway eventually... but your rant just helped me grab my credit card a little faster to let the site operator know I completely disagree with your point of view.

What the heck is a "sname forum"? Never heard of it. Perhaps it's a forum for folks who like to be crybabies over stupid little things. The "Edit" button is not a "god given" right. Sheesh. Some people just can't grow up. :rolleyes:
 
And I want to know where all these forums are that allow all that editing ability as I haven't found them.
 
Red-Tail Boa, Herp Family, Gecko Forums. I like being able to edit posts, and I am not in a position to pay $25 bucks right now, but I understand where Rich is coming from and I respect that.

I DO proof read but sometimes you post and than think of another thing that you should have said. I love this forum and i know it is not free to use. I have been a forum moderator too and the only fault I see on his forum is the attitude of the moderators. Seriously you are scaring members from making posts and often react rude to members because you don't read there posts with attention. I said that many people make a mess by posting 3 posts because they forgot something or they made a serious fault in a sentence. Also many people post here while they are stressing because they are afraid there snake is sick. Do you think the first thing these people think about is proof reading?
 
If we can still read *their* (not there...) posts, it's fine. Letting a few typos slide is fine. And if they truly forgot something massively important, a second post is NOT the end of the world. I spent a fair portion of time here without a contributors badge and not having an edit button was *not* the end of the world. I don't even use it that often.
