Enough is Enough: Off-Topic Posting

LOL To see if I could still view it ... I just checked the Over 18 Adult Lounge and, this time, I could not view the content.

I think Rich VERY recently changed the settings (like maybe an hour ago). I think that owners of private forums (technically mods of their own forums) were included in the "see everything" group. I'm betting that only site mods can see the social groups' contents without group membership at this point.

Apparently it has been modified, because I can no longer view those message boards. That would have explained it, I hadn't thought about that.

Richard lead me to believe that the social groups were out of the jurisdiction of the mods, and therefore untouchable.....?????

I don't know if you misunderstood him, Mike, or if Rich has modified his stance on this, but he posted this today:

Rich Z said:
But in any event, you guys (site mods) will likely still get notices. As such, anyone going off on a rampage in even private social groups are subject to being reprimanded. They are still ON this site, regardless.

Obviously, a profanity report in the 18+ group would not be pursued. But if evidence is provided to the mod/admin team that a member is threatening or harassing another member, we are obligated to follow up. I'm sure there are other instances where a follow-up may be required as well.

Even though some of the social groups are "private" the discussion with in the group is open for all to view, the only thing private about them it the membership and posting within them. That is something that might want to be addressed. Even though I am not a member of any of the "private" groups, I can still read everything that is being said in the group, as well as see any pictures posted in the discussion area.

If this is the case, and anyone can go into and view the Over 18 Adult Lounge, than that one needs to completely terminated and removed as this is a family site and the one time I visited it, there were blatant links to pornography. That might explain why the Parental Controls I have set up on my children's computers has blocked this site, even over-riding the access that was previously allowed the last time I had to use one of their computers (and that was pre-Over 18 Adult Lounge). Something to think about...CS.com has an "R" or even an "X" rating...

Not that it matters much now that Rich changed the settings, but it was not open for everyone to view before. It was open to anyone who had moderator status at all on this site (including forum owners). Since I don't believe there are any forum owners under 18, I don't think any under 18's got in.

And that was the reason that a number of pages were deleted, and members 're-arranged'.
Even though we have loose morals, we do have one or two rules.... LOL

Carol and I both knew personal site owners could get in without an invite, quite early on......
I don't know if it's still possible, but, they could also invite people to join without the creator of the social group knowing.....

Just as an FYI, I'll echo this. I was involved in some social group drama a few days ago, and I've gotten some feedback from a few "subforum" owners - breeders and such - asking me WTH this was all about.

As I make my living off of the interwebz, you can't imagine how thrilled I was to be involved in the drama. ;)

Just a quick note about these social groups. The content within such groups still have to follow the general decorum for the rest of this site concerning profanity, adult material, etc..... There was no exemption expressed nor implied concerning them. Further, the member setting up a social group will be held responsible for policing and moderating that area completely. If they neglect or refuse to do so, then that social group will simply be removed.

They were never open to be viewed by non members.... Personal forum members, yes but the rest of the members, no.....
I used Joels account to check that before I ever invited anyone in to the groups....

To save all this drama I have deleted both groups..... Problem solved.

That's a bummer!

I went to the over 18 group today and thought I had been kicked out, lol! But I see it has been deleted altogether. Too bad - it was nice to have a place where members could relax with each other and not have to worry about the tender eyes of children. I didn't catch what the drama was all about, but it looks like maybe political correctness wins...

I agree with Kathy. I enjoyed that board and will miss it. Mike I'm sorry it became a problem for you.

I deleted them Kathy, it saved all the drama that surrounded them....
In the last 24 hrs I had numerous invite applications, due to notoriety I suspect.
Rich and the mods were getting cold feet, so it was the best thing to do.
Strange thing is 18+ had n't any problems, it was the closed shop that blew up, and only one deranged member with a grudge caused all the drama.
I got rid of them before any real problems occurred, imagine how they would of reacted if there had been a real threat to national security.... LOL

Although I only had little hints of what it was about, I don't blame you for wanting to avoid a lot of headaches for doing something that is supposed to be fun.

I wasn't a member of the closed shop, and couldn't see what was posted there. That is why I can't understand why it is a problem - if you don't like what is contained there, then why be a member and be subjected to it? If the over 18 ever became TOO raunchy for my tastes, I would simply leave. I would not expect it to change to suit my tastes. I could always start my own group if I wanted to!

So I do understand and empathize with why you don't want to be involved. I am just sad that it is a reflection of the way things are in an adult community that shares at least one interest, and GENERALLY gets along pretty well together. Not the end of the world, just sad...

Isn’t that the way of the world? One deranged individual dictates policy for the masses. If I ran the world, I could identify the deranged wackos and evaporate them before they caused problems. I have that talent.

That's not accurate, at least not by any definition of "cold feet" that I know of. In fact, if anyone can be said to have gotten "cold feet" it would be you. I'm not attacking or blaming you for it, but that's the way I'm seeing it. I don't think Rich or the mods changed any course of action based on fear or apprehension. Rich clarified policy, and I'm obligated to support it or quit. I haven't quit. My feet have remained sufficiently warm.

Yes, one member started some drama. But calling him names (which is against the rules, by the way), doesn't change the fact that HE is not responsible for you shutting down those social groups. That's an absolute fact, and if anyone needs more clarity on the point, I'd be happy to elaborate.

Like this thread, or ANY thread, for that matter - the DYK thread will close if left to die naturally. If members think there is still value in contributing to it, it will stay open and alive.

Yay for the free market! :)

Obviously I am in the UK and we use words differently to you...
In the beginning I pm'd Rich for my own forum and I wanted it to be an 18+ Adult forum.. Rich couldn't see how he could make an Adult forum for me and suggested I use the social groups.... So when he later posted that all social groups must follow the site rules it shows that what I call adult and what americans call adult are two different things.
Like wise, when a member starts threatening to report the site because we are corrupting minors and under Ohio state law blah blah blah, we call them deranged in the UK.....
As for shutting it down, yes that was my choice and no one influenced me except the deranged barrack room lawyer and Rich saying it had to follow site rule... Which I knew it had already over stepped....
Thats the way I saw it, and as the site mod I felt it was the right thing to do, like you do what you think is right when your the site mod....;)
