Exotic pet hypocrisy

LOL. What a weird lady. I hate hamsters. I wish my corn snake would eat them. I'm sure they taste fine but he's picky and likes his mice. LOL. I can't count how many times I have been bitten by those damn hamsters. I try to pick them up and they just bite you. I bled pretty badly too..

I've never been bitten by my snakes.*knock on wood*. Yes, many people think It is very strange that I would want to have snakes for a pet.. Oh well. I would never have a hamster. I love rats though. lol

I think everything goes back to that fear that some people have of snakes. Something that was instilled into them as a child, because their mom or dad was afraid or they have this thought that reptiles are slimy. I get looks like that from my mother or mother in-law. Neither one of them will venture any were near the room I keep my snakes in!

And Eric; LMAO!! I can't rep you either! :realhot:

I guess I am lucky my parents kept snakes when I was young and loved when I brought home salamanders or any reptile for that matter. They encouraged me to herp, learn, and care for reptiles which was cool and is how I am raising my kids. My mother-inlaw who is not a reptile lover I think is becomming converted by me- she called 2 weeks ago to ask if she could buy my son a ball python and went herping with me and caught a cool speckled black rat. I wa freaking shocked but she has come a long way....now if she could only convert her son my beau:(

It was similar for me, my mother actually bought me my first snake, and has always let my brother and I try to find local herps. I've been fortunate too, I've yet to have someone come over and be dead set against seeing my snakes, and they usually are quite interested.

Hmm... I wonder if that fear would work on my inlaws if I put our reptiles by the doors. Im not for helping that fear, just keeping the inlaws away.
