Feeder mice by the box are getting expensive!

I have an Okeetee Red and an Anery corn snake that both eat frozen mice. The mice are expensive at the pet store and I am considering breeding my own live mice. Should I consider switching them to live or will I have to figure out a way to euthanize. I can feed live but not sure I can euthanize myself. Maybe I can find a supplie to buy mice in bulk, rather than packs of 4 at PetSmart? I am in Ontario, Canada.
Also, should I or could I consider buying chicks? There is a chicken farm next store. I did not realize that chicks were an option until I was doing some reseach recently.

I also posted in another forum to ask if the Anery colour ever occurs in the wild or if it is a non-native variation or just a captive bred variation?

Chicks are ok for a snack and supplementing but I would not recommend them for a long term diet. If you can avoid feeding live, do so. Live mice and rats will defend themselves and I have seen many eye and body injuries from a rodents bite. Having only 2 snakes it might be cheaper just to continue buying from the Petsmart. The cost of shipping 50 mice is as much as the mice itself so you really run into more cost in the long term.
If you do choose raise your own, You are looking at 1-2 colonies and about 15 bucks or so, a month, in supplies. And you will still need a back-up source in case your colonies stops or has a gap in production. Not to mention they can smell.

Another option, Look to see if there are any reptile clubs or groups or even a herp person close to you. The groups and clubs may have someone that raises feeders or they may go in as a group to order a large amount and split the shipping. This will save you and them a lot of money....

Good luck on what ever you decide

Yes the Anery color is found in the certain areas of South FL

I breed my own. I had a childs python and was sick of buying bloody and freezer burnt mice at petland so I started to breed my own. After Charlie passed on I kept breeding mice, I worked out a deal with the petshop she gives me $1 store credit for every live mouse. A home made gas chamber is easy to make, I use vinegar and baking soda for my CO2 gas. It's something everyone has lol. The worse part of breeding mice is definatly the smell. I bought 2 african soft furred rats in saturday so hoping to get them breeding so I can cut back on the number of mice. Asf's have very little odor, so looking forward to that! I have sold some on kijiji as well, maybe when my cricket and superworms start breeding up a storm I'll do that lol.

Thanks for the suggestions. I hope to buy in bulk. I have animals in a nature room so the smell of mice isn't too bad but I don't want to deal with euthanizing them so much. Bulk-frozen would work well for me. My new Anery ate 2 adult dethawed mice last night and the cost for a box of 4 at Petsmart was $7.99 or $8.99+ lovely 13% tax here in Ontario. Pricey. If anyone knows of a place that can ship them for cheaper, I would be open to that.
