first time owning snake [hatchling]

I put a thermometer on top of the substrate on the warm end and its reading 25'c... which i think is 77'f. I'm going to put under the substrate and see what it says. If it's still reading low then I'll put the thermostat up.

I'm surprised the thermostat wouldn't be correct in temperature. it's brand new. That worries me now......

A really good and accurate thermostat costs a lot of money. Most of the thermostats bought at pet shops are pretty cheap, but they do the trick. A thermostat drifts up until it reaches temps, then drifts back down below temp, then back up again...... (Cycling on and off). Your temperature will fluctuate up and down slightly. Your temperature will also vary as the temp in your house goes up and down. Humidity will also effect the temps slightly. Keep in mind, the heat pad under the glass also has to travel through the glass and the substrate. If you're expecting a perfect and constant temp, I can assure you "It ain't gonna happen." But the temps in the real world of snakes is not the same every day either, so don't worry too much about it.

If you can get the warm side to hover between 83 and 87 (28 to 31 c) and the cool side to stay around 74 (24 c) your snake will do ok.

....... Also Ayesha still hasn't come out of her hide. I saw her head poke out for a few seconds earlier but she disappeared back in.

I'm worried that she's not drinking since its hot here by UK standards. [probably nothing to what the US gets]. We had highs of 24'c! It was ridiculously humid as well! And thunderstorm was pathetic. Four cracks of thunder. *shakes head*

I've changed her water so its fresh and I'm hoping that encourages her to drink. but I'm also worried that she may not know where it is. Should I move it closer to her hide so she'll be able to find it easier?

Snakes don't necessarily drink every day. And just because you've not seen her drink doesn't mean she's not. She will drink when she's thirsty, and she can find the water, no problem. Snakes prefer to stay hidden and generally only come out "To Hunt."
