hi everyoneee
i'm mariana :)
i'm 17 and about two weeks ago my dad bought me a baby snow corn snake (i named her gemini) for my birthday
we assumed she's a female because she's kind of pink but i honestly have no idea, haha.

i've always loved snakes but i had absolutely no idea on how to take care of them and this site has helped me a bunch, thank you!
i think i've got everything under control so far, all except handling
i've read other threads and such and it's recommended to leave them alone for a week or so but i've had her for two and she still runs away when i attempt to get her (she tends to burrow under the bedding and doesn't come out until she feels i've left the room)
does she hate me or something? haha
she's doing fine with feeding and pooping and everything so far so i don't know if it's just taking her longer to feel comfortable around me
should i just leave her alone for a few more weeks or just keep trying?

She's just a baby, she doesn't hate you. :)

Little ones are known to be skittish at first, it's instinctive, and keeps them from being munchies in the wild. Mine is about a month and a half old now, and he quit freaking out when I'd come in the room after two weeks. Just move slowly, and let her see you before you scoop her up to hold her. You have to gain her trust, it's generally recommended around here to have short frequent holding sessions (post-feeding and 'in the blue' time excluded, of course). She'll warm up to you as soon as she figures out you don't plan on having tiny snake tacos or something.

Welcome to the forum. :)

Congrats on the new snakes. She will settle down any of the new snakes I had in the past or at work (I love my job) are always jumpy at first. Its a safety thing, when you are small i the wild you run away or get eaten. Enjoy your new snake, I agree I love this forum already and I'm a new member too!!!!

hey guys! :)
thank you for taking the time to reply <3

haha thank God
i thought she just plain hated me
so i'll keep trying slooowly, i hope i get some progress soon
i would never, ever have snake tacos D:
that's just horrible :(

i'll try to take some pictures or something soon :)

haha, thank you! :)

here's a picture of her even though the lighting made the whole picture yellow >///>

Welcome to herpaculture and to the forums!!!
Do you have a heat source on the tub? It looks like a nice snake :)
Little ones are known to be scared and jumpy. Just go after him/her to handle. But let them know you are there before you try picking them up. Also, don't grip to hard when you pick up.

And to find out if it is male or female, I recomend you go to a snake show, or somewhere else (some other member will probly specifiy) to get it popped, or probed.

If you have any other questions, this is the best place ever to ask them :)

thanks! and yes, i have a heat source and the whole shabang, haha.

How do i find out if there are any snake shows going on in my area? that sounds like fun :)

do you have a thermostat? Well, looking on RG would be good. (reptile geeks)
And if you get the magazine "Reptiles", you know they have a section for upcomming snake shows. ( I bet 99.9.99 percent of all members on this site get it :) )
oh, and what part of florida do you live in? If you are close enough, you could go to the big expo over by orlando!!

sorry, double post

And there a bunch of shows over by orlando to pick from to, though the one that every herper who knows about it dreams of going to.

yup, just got one today actually.
& i'll definitely look for the magazine!

i live in kissimmee, about 2 minutes from orange county
so i could most likely go to any shows in orlando, yaaay! :D

oh awesomeee!
i'll be looking into going to some of those
i think i could even go to the daytona beach one... :)

welcome to the world of snakes, lol

i read somewhere that if u put a clean old sock or some other type of small clothing in the snakes vivarium for a few weeks, it will get used to your smell. i did this for my snake when i first got it and it works. cute snake.

I've had my snake for a week now, and I've taken her out for 10 minutes-1 hour nearly everyday. She just now got to the point where she isn't trying to get away from me when I pick her up out of her viv and feels very comfortable in my arms, gently exploring. So far, she's been perfectly healthy and she's really warming up to me. I did handle her a bit too soon after her first feeding and she kept her food down, but maybe that was just luck? Other than that I think that handling her everyday (except for a couple days after eating or when shedding) will help her really warm up to you...at least that's been my experience in just the past week :) Maybe I just lucked out with an overly trusting snake :p

Welcome to the addiction! As others have said, don't worry about your baby's current nervousness. Part of the reason for corns being so popular is their generally excellent disposition. One of mine was a total spaz when I got her. She'd rocket out of the tank and/or bolt off in all directions. Within a couple of months, as she got bigger, she relaxed. Now she's a nice peacable snake, like the others.

A word of caution - the photo gallery and the "for sale" section are dangerous places! lol
