first-time snake owner :))

montanatburg, really? i think i'll try that! thanks :)

haya, i think you got lucky while i got really unlucky, haha. she won't even let me pick her up at all, and i'm too scare to do it sometimes D:
i've read and researched on how you're supposed to handle and grab them but it's not working for me at all :/

caryl, it took yours a few months? well then that makes me feel a lot better! i bet she just needs some time.
and yes, i've noticed those dangerous places! too bad i don't have enough space for another viv because if i did i know i'd be begging to get another corn already :3

Don't be scared! Just be gentle! Some people do say to let them be for a while, but remember that the more you handle them, the more comfortable they get :) My guess would that be it will be really scared the first number of times you handle them regardless of how much time you give them to settle in. I could be wrong though :shrugs:

Picking it up by the middle of the body is the best way to go. If it's a little flighty, you might want to continue letting it slither from hand to hand...once you have it out, it will most likely chill out. Don't forget to wash your hands before and after! :) I use an anti-bacterial like germ-x and purell...quick and easy, and it might not hurt to continue to use the same substance.

That's all I know so far v:)v

thank youu! i'll definitely try again, and again, and again. until i master this difficult technique
haha :D

If you feel nervous holding her just make sure you holder close to something soft like the bed for awhile just incase you accidently drop her or she slithers out of your hands good luck and congrats shes a beauty welcome

being scared

hi,
about being scared, all animals can since when humans are scared or nervous when they are around them. just relax, pick up from the middle of the snake, and let it move about your hands, arms and eventually neck. I have had mine almost a year and it still not to kin to my wife, :), lol

Another tip for picking them up is to just do it. If you hesitate, they can assume that your hand is a dreadful five-headed predator stalking them, or something of the sort. Just read in calmly and steadily and sort of scoop the snake up gently. Relax, and be persistent. Some calm down sooner, others later, but patience pays off.

I've personally opted for the "more handling leads to a calmer snake" choice, rather than "leave them alone and they'll get over it." They do calm down as they grow up, but hey, mine are pets and I want to handle them. If I had large numbers of snakes I suppose I'd be more likely to leave them to grow with less handling.

Keep up the gentle handling, and enjoy.
