Thanks. Never been a snake person, until my 11 year old daughter talked me into it yesterday. Now I'm loving it.

Congrats and welcome to the hobby!

If you were only talked into it yesterday, it doesn't seem like you've had much time to learn about proper care. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask! You'll get plenty of great advice here!

Thanks. I did not have any knowledge prior to bringing them home; however, my daughter's knowledge impressed me enough that I felt comfortable. I have spent every spare moment reading posts on this site as a crash course into corn snakes 101.

Awesome! Good to know both you & your daughter are educated/getting that way about proper care. You'll make great snake owners!

One thing I am not happy about is my local (non-chain) pet store. I have purchased pets and supplies exclusively from them, and have always trusted their knowledge. The day I bought the corns I went to the pet store and allowed them to walk me through everything I needed. They did great with everything, aside from cohabitation. I didn't know any better, and they assured me that a 55 gallon tank would be perfect for two corns to live in together. Imagine my surprise when I get home and learn how terrible of an idea cohabitation is.

First off - welcome to corn snake ownership, they look gorgeous! Secondly - yeah, that seems to be a thing with a number of pet stores from what I've read :S You can usually find some good deals for another tank on gumtree or something (although after buying mine I saw a private ad for an entire set up on a piece of paper in a pet shop window for a lot less!)

Awesome. I will look into gumtree. I'm not excited about having to spend that money on another tank, but the well being if the snakes are more important. Thanks for the info.

Good luck - just read the entire ad - sometimes there's a cheeky snake thrown in thta's not mentioned in the ad title (I nearly fell prey to that!)

The tank is usually the easiest part to find cheaply. When you have to add another UTH, thermostat and a secure lid the price starts to climb. How are you providing heat to the current tank?

I have no way of regulating it yet. This is another thing the pet store got me with. They "assured me" that this heater would not get too hot for the snake. After reading some things here I realize that I need to regulate it more closely.
