FROZEN FEEDERS PRICE COMPARISONS

I only have the one snake, so my orders aren't large. The shipping kills me, but if I ordered more the shipping would be the same. I've always used The Mouse Factory, The mice are vacuum packed in a styrofoam tray, and "just bathed" clean. I only had a little poop on a couple mice twice in over 2 1/2 years. I've always gotten them next day as long as I order by 1-2:00 EST. I usually order Wednesday's. If you look at the pics on their site, that's exactly how mine always look when I get them. I might be able to save a couple bucks somewhere else, but I've been extremely happy with them, so I'll give them my business.

Edna's mice are super nice! :D

Edna is the mouse factory's owner, unless there is one that works at rodent pro too.

I received my first order from RodentPro today and i'm giving it a thumbs up. The mice and rats were clean and barely has any noticeable odor. My only prior experience with ordering bulk was from a vendor at a local reptile show. Man... those rats STINK. I bought 15 and i still have 10 left, but i can't bring myself to throw them away. At least now i know the difference between clean and dirty feeders.

My only complaint and it's not RodentPro's fault, was that a lot of the pinkies had their feet, tail, and in a few cases, head broken off. Pinkies are small and delicate, so when frozen, it's very easy for their appendages to break off during the shipment process.

In terms of pricing, i think RodentPro is the cheapest by far too.

Rodent Pro Rats:

Small, 26 to 32 days of age, Qty. Per Bag: 20, Length (Inches): 4.50 - 6.00*, Weight (Grams): 45.00 - 84.00

rodentprosmallrats.jpg

This is actually 21 rats, I had one from the last bag, plus all of them from the new bag I jut opened.

As you can see (and their website states) their weights vary widely. (at least on rats, I haven't weighed the mice in my freezer.)

Anyone have weights from a bag of small rats from TMF? Just curious as to weights. Her website states 55g with some variation.

Based on some basic calculations, the average weight of RodentPro's small rats should be around 64.5g. Based on your sample, the average weight that you received was around 58g. That seems acceptable to me, although when you start looking at larger sized rats, for example medium rats are 85g-174g, the weight range is huge. Basically, you could potentially get a rat that is twice the weight of another rat in the same bag. Not sure if that's normal or not with rodent suppliers. It seems like they should be able to decrease that weight range gap.

We recently used American Rodent Supply. Our total was 121.00 and some change and we got:

100 Pinkies
100 Fuzzies
100 Crawlers
150 Small Mice
50 Medium Mice

Shipping was free to where we live in Tennessee, there was a 10.00 packing charge (to cover the dry ice I suspect). All the rodents were fully intact upon inspection and our snakes feed on them really good. The only downfall is there is a minimum order of $100.

Hope that helps someone!

Happy dance! I just figured out that ARS is on the other side of town from where I live! I have to pickup my order during the business day, but to save on shipping...

Hmm, with only one little bitty hognose, 50 pinkies should last the better part of a year!

It's time for me to buy again and both my 2010's are moving up to Fuzzies. If I can find the place with the BEST consistency in weight...well, I'll buy from them. Suggestions?

We buy from layne labs. 3 of mine are on fuzzies. I'd have to say the sizes of their fuzzies are much more consistent than their pinkies.

Thanks so much. I have a tab open on Layne Labs and the price is certainly comparable to all the rest, for this order anyway.

If you click on their name I have it linked to their site. :)

This is very informative. To add to this train of thought I'd like to know what other factors are important to the forum members. Besides price what criteria do you use to make a purchasing decision. For example:

Packaging (vacuum packing/resealable freezer bags)
Shipping included in the price of the rodents or shipping costs separate.
White rodents vs. colored rodents
etc.

Personally I have no preference concerning packing. We go through rodents quickly so I open the vacuum sealed rodents and put them in a ziplock. I can see where those who want long term storage my want to use vacuum packing.

I'd rather have shipping included in the price of my rodents that way I don't have to establish a shopping cart to determine true costs.

Color makes no difference to me. A colored mouse is as nutritious as a colored mouse.

Any thoughts?

I used Layne Labs for my first ever mice order. I tried to save some money the second time around by buying from Mice Direct at an expo. I will never use them again. Some of the fuzzies were so small they were pinkies. And they stink. The other day my husband said, "This is the first time I can smell the mice." He was right. Stiiiiiiinky. I'll go back to Layne Labs from now on and pay the shipping.

ANY ONE IN LAS VEGAS, NEVADA...

up for going in on an order and splitting the costs? Contact me ASAP if you're interested. I need to place an order this week.

But if you know of a place in Vegas with good feeders at great prices, let me know that too,

Thanks!

I have to agree with Karoni, I really like Layne Labs. Though their pricing may be slightly higher than some, the quality outweighs the price savings from others. I also like that with growing snakes, I don't have to order 100 mice that I'm not going to use. Layne Labs allows you to order as little as 25 mice, or as many as 1,000. Of course the more you order of any type the more you save. With growing snakes on different sized mice this really helps to allow you to order the mice you need at the moment, and the mice you are going to need after your snake surpasses the mice it's currently on, without so much waste. I don't know about everyone else, but when I ordered 100 mice for a snake that doesn't eat for about 4 months during the spring, I have major waste, too. Also, the products from Layne Labs is of reputable condition. I like that they freeze their mice all in an arms tucked under position, which virtually eliminates the "mice tangles" I've had with other orders. Their products also arrived quicker, even when I didn't order Monday-Wednesday noon, which includes 2 day shipping. And considering Layne Labs is in California, a much farther delivery than the 2 hour away mice I ordered from rodentpro.com in my homestate. To top it off the mice arrived from across the country all still completely frozen and with ice to spare.
