Frozen vs. live pinks

Hey all, just had a question--

I have been feeding Kaven frozen pinks, and he eats them very readily and has never had a problem.

This is the part of the question where I get to feel a little lame. I had his pinks out when I was rearranging my freezer a couple nights ago, and because I have them in a couple layers of plastic wal mart bags, manged to forget they were on the counter until the next (yesterday) afternoon. (Don't worry; they were immediately and properly disposed of!).

I have ordered more, and they are due to arrive on Wednesday. That, however, would put him at a little over two weeks since a feed (I was waiting to feed him as he has just been moved to another location and is still settling in).

My question is this: should I wait for the frozens, or should I buy one live for him to eat now? I don't want to put him off frozen pinks by creating a preference for the live ones (I'm honestly not even sure if one feeding could DO that, but then, that's why I'm asking). I am also uncertain as to the safety of a pet store rodent, or whether or not I should kill the mouse myself before feeding (and if so, how to do so quickly and humanely).

I'm betting my best bet would be to wait for the frozens, but I wanted to get an affirmation on that. Any suggestions?

Thank you!

I'd personally just wait for the shipment. But that being said, I've never fed live and don't think I could. (It's a good thing I have a boyfriend whose not so squirmish about such a thing, if it ever came down to that.)
I'm sure someone who knows more about this will chime in eventually, but I thought I'd give it a try. Better safe than sorry would be my thought.

Do you have any chain stores near you? Petland, Petco - they both carry frozen mice in my area..maybe yours, too? It woudn't be too expensive for just one or two until your shipment arrives.

well i feed live pinky at first to give my snake the instinct to hunt and kill then wen i move up i go to frozen i say just buy live it cant hurt ur snake.

Why does a pet NEED the "instinct to hunt and kill"?

Especially when they might not switch to frozen easily after live......

That's like saying "I let my puppy kill a deer, and as soon as he has a killing instinct, I switch him to kibble".

You can't "give" your snake instinct, as instinct is inherited, not learned :)
