getting serious about keeping rats

From my experience with pet rats:

Dog food seemed to be the best (and much cheaper than most specialty rodent foods) with occasional vegetables/fruits/stale bread. Also, once a female is pregnant, I would separate her from the male. Males can sometimes get territorial and kill/eat the pups during the night. Finally, keeping your breeders near your snakes would probably cut down on how often your rats are getting pregnant. Knowing a predator is around will stress them, ruining the 'mood' if you will. :) Good luck.

Well, that's just my two cents from my own experience when I had rats. Feel free to take it or leave it... but if you're trying to get good birth rates, I suggest you take it.

Well, since you are trying to breed the rats you should probably be concerned with whether or not they're going to produce.

lol i would never keep them in the same room, mainly because they would smell them constantly, secondly because they wouldnt produce :)
