My snows were bread on 3.3 and again 2 wks later... she hasnt eaten in 3 weeks and I caluclated that she should have laid her clutch by now... whats going on? She has gained weight, but I dont feel lumps, or I am not expericenced enuf to know what I am looking for,.... I think she should have laid by now, but I am getting worried... I have a egg box and vermeculite in the tank and everything.. what can I do and when will she lay? plz help...
Last year when she had her clutch it was a complete surprize to me, I just found eggs in the tank one night, so this will b my first official breeding... lets hope I did it right...

You can find a lot of threads on this by doing a search...
Short answer, in general they will have a pre-laying shed first and then lay the eggs. Some go off food earlier than others - my gravid hypo just refused a meal for the first time last week and is in shed now, so the shed cycle is a better way to predict when eggs will be laid than the feeding.

I wasnt able to feel eggs on my female. The tall tale sign for her was going off food. She went off food about three weeks before she laid. The weight gain was so gradual that i didnt notice it until after she had laid and was so deflated. If she isnt eating and is gaining weight it is obvious she is gravid. If you havent done so already put in the moist box for her to lay and keep an eye out for her pre-lay shed.

I am, I check the tank everyday... I am just getting a bit worried about her... her eyes arent even opaque yet... they mated so long ago... guess I'll wait and see and let nature take its course... (I was kinda hoping to have easter eggs though... lol)
Thanx...

I can feel maybe 2 or 3 lumps on my girl, the rest just looks like a super obese snake lol.
Remember they can retain sperm until they ovulate so the day they breed isn't necessarily when the eggs get fertilized.
I know how you feel, it's like 'hurry up and lay those eggs already' lol. Good Luck! :)

As I understand , they mated March 03 , is that correct ?
In that case you don't have to worry , it takes about approx. 2 months before they lay eggs . So withing a week or so ,she must go into preshed for egglaying .
On the other hand , sometimes there is a difference between the breedingdate and the date of fertilisation( meeting the sperm at the females eggcel) .

It's certainly not an exact science! We know what the rules are, but the Corns just keep coming up with exceptions.

Most of the females I've had, I can feel the eggs down their sides. One, I could only feel the eggs by holding my hand under her belly. Another, I could never feel eggs, right up to the day she laid.

Most will have a pre-lay shed, but you'll still get the odd one that won't so that's not "hard and fast".

Even going off their food isn't always an indicator. Sometimes they go off their food because they're ovulating, not because they're gravid. Also, I once had one that ate right up to the day before she laid.

They do like to get us chewing our fingernails...

Since when does it take 2 months from breeding to laying?
I messed up a little bit with the time from eggs to hatchlings , sorry :grin01:
I checked my data from this year and it goes from 5 - 6 weeks and lore before eggs are dropped . I think they can go to 2 months in case of a late fertilisation or spermholding till the cicle is on the right time .

Most of mine have dropped their eggs from Day 28 to Day 45 after their last mating.

Does she still look plump in the back 2/3 of her body? Mine usually will not eat the last 10-14 days before they lay, so it may not be all that unusual.

About the best thing you can do now is to be patient, getting all frothy doesn't help much. Try your best to ignore her. They can pick up on emotions and such from you, so try to limit your fussing with her and her cage and just let her be. Put a Post-It Note on her cage with the word "Benign Neglect", so that every time you look and want to fuss, you remember to let her do her thing. ;)

So long as she's not frantically pacing in her cage, all should be well. If she is pacing, she may not like her nest box. I had one this year that absolutely would not lay in plain vermiculite, so I added in a bunch of damp sphagnum moss on top and she went in and laid an hour later. So you may try that, really cram the moss into her nest box.

Take a deep breath and let us know how she does. =)

...Shes fatter (I think) and still no eggs or shed.... she still wont eat.... Im getting worried... How can I tell if shes really gravid??? Ive tried feeling the "string of pearls" when I lay her flat, but I dont really feel nething.. I do think I see a few lumps though... But since I am a fairly new breeder, I am not experienced enough to know exactly what I am feeling/looking for....

her eyes have finally gone opaque and she is roaming around the tank, frantically, even though I have put in an egg box 2 days ago... She is so fat, shes bigger then her mate... YAY!!! Any day now!!!! YAY!!!!!  Im going to b a gramma again!!!!  I wonder how many eggs she has???

Very cool! Can't wait to hear if she lays a bunch. Just for comparison, it wasn't until the last weeks before laying that I was convinced that mine even had eggs. I couldn't feel them when she went thru my hands, and some were visible only if she turned a certain way, yet she laid 21 of them. I used bed-a-beast well watered with a layer of moss and put it on the warm side. She spent most of her time buried in it. Here is a picture of her one week before laying. You can see that she doesn't look very pregnant.

2 months is nothing! My creamy girl first mated in early december and layed last week!

Also...LEAVE THE POOR SNAKE ALONE TO DO HER JOB. The worst thing you could do is poke and fuss with her. Leave her in peace to lay her clutch.

thanx guys (girls 2...) I can see the eggs and I felt them today (@ least some of them) she'll b shedding w/i a day or so, and she is spending more time in her egg box... I think she has a bigger clutch then she had last year.. Only this year, its not going 2 b a surprize... :p :p

oh, and I havent been bothering her too much, for the most part, I just leave her alone, I took her out for the first time in a week, today just to see how she was doing....

She shed monday and I am expecting eggs ne day now... I looked @ her 2day and I think I counted 12 eggs.. I could b wrong, but we'll see... is it normal for the male to keep mating with her? He wont leave her alone... They have been cagemates for 12 years... Ever since she shed, he wont stop chasing her... whats going on??? Also, she wont go in the egg box nemore..... ? ? ? :shrugs: :shrugs: :shrugs:
