Heat Bulbs for night

howiet4702

Wanted: Jasper Co Okeetee
Hey folks,

I am looking for some night time heat for my 10 gallon tank. I have a UTH under the one side and the inside temp at night reads about 73-75. My house goes down to about 68 at night. Which type of bulb should I get to make a little more heat for my little guy at night? Blue? Red? What size wattage for a 10 gallon? I seen 25 watt, 40 watt and 75 watt.....

Thanks!

As long as there is a heat mat under the tank, then you should be fine. Corns are not tropical or desert reps, so they don't reslly need too much heat. If you're still not comfortable enough with the temp in the viv, an infrared light can work. if you have a 20 gallon or smaller then a 40 or 50 watt should be plenty. Make sure it is specifically a nocturnal light though so you don't interrupt your snakes night/day schedule.

I turn off my heat bulb at night to try to simulate the lower temps that normally would come with nightfall. I only use the heat lamp during the winter because my house stays very cool even during the day, otherwise I only have the UTH and that works very well.

I just brought a red bulb 60 Watt and I left that on. Is 80 degrees too warm at night for him on the warm side?

80 is fine. It can be 80-85 and be in the safe zone. I try to keep mine in the low 80's.
