Hello from San Diego

Hi everyone, just ordered my 1.2 okeetee babies from Randy Wittington on Kingsnake.com. They should arive today.
I have 3 rubbermaid 12q containers with small holes along the top, with newspaper, waterbowls and small cardboard boxes/hides, and heating pads. Temps are stable at 80-85 on the sides with the heater. These are my first attempt at keeping corns in a few years. My first attempt lasted about 2 weeks before my 2 store bought corns escaped. I kept them together in a sliding top terrarium, and noticed one day the top was open about a 1/4inch.
A bit about me: I keep poison dart frogs and successfully breed a few. I have kept a pair of Jungle Carpet Pythons for years, but sold them when I had my first baby boy. I have had MANY reptiles through the years but only keep the frogs now (trying cornsnakes again).
I race 8th scale buggies when I get the chance and have a small track in the backyard.
I love to work on car audio(especially in my xB!) but am forced to do concrete ( labor and formset).
Welp thats it, just wanted to introduce myself before I go reading/posting throughout the forum.

BTW, thanks for a great information source!

-Frank

Oh no... You've got a toaster...
I had a tC. lol.
Congrats on getting the Okeetees, and welcome back to the addiction!
The setups you have for them sound pretty good. Just make sure that the lids are locked on, or you have a book/some other heavy object on top so they can't lift the lid, just as a precaution.

Hi Frank :wavey: welcome to the forum!

Be sure and post plenty of pics of your new Okeetees as soon as the lil ones get settled in!

Hello "neighbor" Frank!
Make sure you post tons of pictures not only of your Okees (my favs) but also of your dart frogs. I've always wanted to keep them on a really nice display in the living room, but I am still very afraid of keeping them due to their high maintenance. :awcrap:
Again, welcome to the best source of information for cornsnake keepers in the internet.

Welcome! As aforementioned... hope to see pics of ALL your animal friends.

I used to race Micro RS4's... was even a moderator on a forum for them once. But then I went on to a "better" hobby! LOL!

Awesome, I feel very welcome here!

Heres some older pics to hold you over while I try and get new ones of both my frogs and snakes.

I'm always amazed by the bright colors of those frogs!!! You have some beautiful patterns there!

and the viv you built is AMAZING!! I'm going to have to show that to my boyfriend as he's looking forward to building something similar!

I'm impressed and you kid (Junior??- I'm assuming he's your kid) is adorable

I've ALWAYS loved these frogs... but am too worried about care for them. Thanks for sharing them so that I can "live vicariously through your pics". LOL.

Your welcome, Fred!

Seriously, Im more concerned about the care of my corns right now. My frogs are pretty easy! I never even have to clean out their vivariums, all the plants use the waste as fertilizer. My frogs can take temps down to low 60s at night (better to keep 70ish and above but very tolerant, as I understand, I havnt tried it,) and up to 83 in the day. They just need to be fed daily for babies or 2-3 days for adults (some go longer between feedings.) I make my own fruit flies which isnt very hard and costs only pennies.
Now my new baby corns, I cant let them go below 70 at night (using heat pad, not a big deal I guess, but I dont need any supplemental heat for my frogs, just day lights for the plants,) costs lots more to feed (I hope someone can turn me in the right direction to get good clean food for my snakes,) worried about the snakes excaping like I let happen years ago.

Doesn't the cost even out though... for your frogs - don't you need the UVB lights... which aren't cheap (here, they're about $40.00 for an 18" fluorescent bulb). $40.00 in mice is a LOT of mice (esp. if you buy frozen in bulk) - about a year's supply for 2 non-brumating corns.

Of course if the lights aren't UVB, you're right... corns cost much more! LOL. They do have side benefits as well... (handleable, live quite long, etc).

PDF's spend most of thier lives under the canopy of a rainforest. You dont need uvb, only full spektrum to grow the low-light plants. You can go no lights/plant, but all my display tanks have live plants.
Hey, where can I buy frozen food in lots?

Well, I buy my rodents from Rodentpro.com. I know many others use Big Cheese and others use The Mouse Factory. Since I've got 30 snakes, I have to buy more... and when I did a price comparison, I saved a little more with RodentPro. I got my price down to 42 cents per mouse (didn't matter what size). I know I could save even more if I found someone who would order with me and split shipping costs. If I bought mice locally, I'd be spending about $1.08/mouse.

You'd really need to assess your need and see where you could save some money.

Welcome to the Forums.. I have a "Few" snakes too.. LOL
I work in San Diego Su-We Downtown, (Santa Fe Depot),
if you have any questions/concerns about your corns, come
by and see me..

You race 8th scale buggies? I'm assuming the R/C controlled and hopefully gas powered? Lol, I bought a 10th scale truck wow I don't even know how long ago. Haven't played with it in years. It is damn quick though. I bough a real nice .15 O.S. motor for it. That's really the only I remember on it. Haha.

Anyway, welcome to the forum! As far as mice, I get mine from RodentPro. I guess they are stationed around me though, because we have a show once a month about 40 min away from me and I can go buy them in bulk right there. I can get pinkies for .19 cents a piece. It goes up approximately 4 cents each size I think.

Definitely buy them in bulk. I went a year before I got on the forum buying from a pet store, I felt like an idiot buying mice that expensive when I started getting them in bulk.

Thanks Gene!

Trent, Ya 1/8th buggies RC car powered by nitro. O.S. still makes great engines.
Heres my race buggy, RC8 with a WS7III engine:

I have a couple cars, and a track in back to play on. My son drives too, I just got home from Hobby People with a new Traxxas Slash for his birthday tomorow. I cant wait to see his face! The traxxas Slash is a 10th scale version of the CORR racing truck. Its freeking awesome looking, I hope it performs!

I might make a trip to LLL this weekend and get a bulk deal. Definately not going to the local pet store and paying $1.50 a head, no matter the size.
