Help! I'm Scared! She's having short spazms!

Will you please keep us updated on her, because now I am going to worry until I hear the spasms have completely stopped...

Nanci

I think she completely stopped because I've watched her intently and there hasn't been any "coughing"/spazzing. :) So, I really don't think there's nothing to worry about but i'll still watch her for any further....uhh...spazms and coughing. Thanks everybody :)

Glad to hear that, but I'm not done worrying yet! By the end of next week, I'll feel better!

I'd be taking the bag of Four Paws back to the store I bought it from and telling them how my snake might have died from it. And writing to the manufacturer to tell them that, no, fir is _not_ safe for snakes.

Nanci

hope shes ok i had one of mine with "spasms" recently and he died within minutes for no apparant reason !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
if i can help.....i will .....description of what happened would be good.....just to know if it was similar

Fir is toxic to corns. Theses spasms MAY be signs of poisoning. Get rid of your substrate immediately and replace with aspen, newspaper, or paper towels. I would have her checked by a vet.

shoot sorry should read :eek1:

its probably worth mentioning that newspaper is also bad substrate for corns, because ink is poisonous if wet and if your corn gets wet then so will the ink and it will then be absorbed, which is not at all good for your snake.

That is not true. Inks are vegetable oil based inks and are non toxic. The worst part of them is they tend to rub off on your snake and they look dirty all the time. Especially the light colored snakes.

Where are you getting your information from? Maybe I need to learn something new??

I've heard that, too. At least in the US, most newspapers use soy based ink, thus it is non-toxic. I got my information from other snake-keepers, probably some on this very forum. However, it is not that hard to research something like that. Just call the local newspaper and ask them. If they don't know, find out who they buy their ink from and call the manufacturer.

If it still worries you, you can buy rolls of unprinted newsprint. Likely your local newspaper can sell you some end rolls, or at least give you the name of someone you can buy it from.

When colored ink forst came out some of the colors had, I think, lead in them. Newspapers these days are non-toxic.
