HELP! She's gone!!!

Oh god. My nine-month-old anery has vanished. I went to check on her and she's just gone, completely gone. I last checked on her about 24 hours ago and she could be anywhere by now. I searched the immediate area, inside all my shoes etc. and warm places. Please, help, somebody. I need advice. I'm a total snivelling mess. I am so never going to see my snake again. :'(

I haven't ever had this happen to me.. But I know I've read some GREAT ideas on this forum in the past. Really clever stuff that really blew my mind.. little traps you can make and such..
You might run a search on "escapes"...
Truly hope you find your snake!
I'd be so bummed...

Oh dear, you poor thing. First off, don't panic. Recheck the viv and it's immediate area. I found a snake in a handbag a little while ago, so try to think of the silliest places. Try pop-bottle traps and plastic bags that will rustle if the snake goes over them. Good luck

I lost two of mine and recovered both within 2 days. I used pinky traps. Check under the viv or up in blinds if you have them....lots of times they are hiding right in the spots you don't think they can fit into.

I'm setting up three bottle traps... I was thinking of putting one beside her viv since she might go back into the hides there, but would she be able to climb a chest of drawers?

if you have some kind of substrate you might want to check the substrate because my snake likes to burrow inside of it, especially if it is aspen substrate.

I use a paper towel substrate. And the tank's not that big, anyway, I was thinking of moving her soon to a larger one (and more secure, if I ever get her back). She's definitely not in her tank, or anywhere nearby it. She's now been gone about 48 hours and no sign. There are holes in my room which lead to roofspace and floorboards and such, so I'm very concerned, and I can't dismantle my house (it's not even my house, actually).

I've had three bottles in the upstairs part of the house, with inverted tops and warm slit fuzzies inside, but she hasn't taken the bait yet. Could she have travelled downstairs? I didn't think that she'd have been inclined to, and it's gonna widen the search significantly if she's down there. >:-(

Any more suggestions or tricks? She's about a foot and a half long and only a few centimetres wide, so she could be anywhere in the house.

I had this happen a little while ago, and was completely freaked out. I happened to find my girl in the basement. She had managed to find a hole and fall through downstairs. She was fine and unhurt - but cool. I had to really warm her up well and keep a close eye on her for the next few days.

If you have a basement, take a quick peek down there if you haven't found her yet. Also try not to panic too much like other people have mentioned. They might just be hiding out for a bit!

Good Luck!

They don't makes houses with basements in Ireland. :) But thanks for the suggestion.

I'm trying, very hard, not to freak out. I'm just absoloutely convinced that she's never going to reappear. And I'm very attached to her.

If she just ate, she is probably hiding nearby a warm heat source digesting.

Go get some painter's tape(blue or green), and lay it along the wall on the floor, sticky side up. Do this throughout your entire house. Use warm water or vegetable oil to remove any excess adhesive when you find her...

The painter's tape is a good idea, but I'll have to wait until the DIY stores are open, which will mean Monday morning.

How long is it hygenic to leave those defrosted fuzzies sitting around in their bottles, btw?

Hmm...that's a tough call. Do they stink? Did you slit them? I don't know for sure, but I klnow if I left a defrosted steak out on the counter, it would be for a couple hours before I would no longer consider it safe to eat...Tough Call...

I did slit them, but they don't smell (from a human perspective anyway, I certainly hope the snake can smell them)... I'd hope that the average snake-gut copes better with bacterial growth than a human (seems likely to me, since their food is always raw...)

I would tend to agree with you. However, I hesitate to offer any advice on a timeline, because I really have no idea...

A friend of mine lost her adult Corn for a month, "searched everywhere," and it ended up being found in the same room she lost it.

Check everywhere - shoes, coat pockets, even in places it could "never fit."

I lost Sammi Snake for 3 days when I first got her. Found her hiding in the empty cerebral cavity of an old cow skull right next to her viv...
