Help with a kiddo here?

So I should breed him to a hypo, correct?
And honestly, I'm not sure if it's a male, I don't feel comfortable probing yet, but my guess is male. So he very well could be a female. And in that case, Kathy, I WILL buy your hypo. I'll go see a friend tomorrow and get him/her probed to be 100% sure.

Ok, seriously ignore me. It's been a VERY long day.

I was talking to someone else about buying a hypo female, and for some reason I thought your male was the hypo and the female was the Amel Motley. -sigh-
I need to go to bed. lol

What are you wanting to produce or are you determining hets only? I'd find a hypo mate 100% het anery. That way if he is a ghost you'll get 50% chance of ghost offspring.

That'd be a good idea Dreamsnake. Maybe I'll see what I can do about that.

And Kathy, that's a possibility too, haha. :D
Bed will come soon enough. I still have snake chores to do tonight.

If it were me I'd breed to a Hypo or a Ghost. I can tell the difference between Anery and Ghost easily enough and between Hypo and Normal easily enough, too. So it's up to you and what you have on hand. :shrugs:

Well, a friend of mine has a Hypo female for sale, and I think i'm going to buy her and see what happens, IF the snake in question proves to be a male. If not, I'll keep an eye out for a hypo male.

Well, without a doubt in my mind I found a ghost at petco, I can show pics of her up here, she's definitely a ghostie, so it's possible.

I also found my sunglow there, and my diffused stripe that unfortunately passed away due to being a non-feeder, that they didn't disclose to me until AFTER i brought him back, and wouldn't refund my money because he was two days after their 14 day period. Grr.

oh it's definitely possible to find combo morphs in pet stores, i just don't fully trust their labeling, because it could have came to them labeled wrong.

either way, the OP has a really nice snake! and breeding trials will make it much more fun!

The company that sells to petco buys wholesale lots from corn breeders so it's possible for just about anything to end up there.
It looks like an anery A in the new photo. If it were me I probably wouldn't breed it to a hypo "just" to prove it was a ghost. The babies would be common, harder to sell morphs.

what do the checks on the belly look like?...are they solid black or do they have a "faded" appearance?

I second that. Not EVERY snake you come across should be used to produce more snakes. Unless you really like this look or something, and you have plans on producing a line, or some other reason to involve him in your breeding projects, I'd just call it "most likely an Anery" and leave it at that.

I didn't have any plans to breed the snake anyway, and I took it over to a friend's today to be probed, and it's indeed a female, and someone attempted to either pop her or probe her previously and she had some nasty scabs in her cloaca, so we won't be breeding her this season. She is an Anery A and I do have an idea to breed her next year, but that's not a 100% sure decision.

My ultimate choice may in fact be that I put her up for a reasonable adoption fee to a good home, because if I'm not going to breed her, I could use the space to take on bigger projects. She's a sweetie though. I may ask around to some friends and see if they'd want to take her on just as a pet.
