Here are a few things I have added...

I just love cobalt blues, simply amazing. I also like how the baboons can hiss, not sure if its all of them or just the king. I remember a friend of mine showing me in his house a year or so back, it freaked me out at the time (had the film arachnaphobia on my mind, the bit where it jumps at him and he nail-guns it) but now I think it's kinda cool. The abdomen with the pattern on is pretty sweet too.

I'm going to have no skin after I finish scratching all these imaginary critters off. :sidestep:

Some of them are very interesting. It's nice to see something different every once in a while. But, wow... you're one brave soul.

We only have one right now, a Mexican redknee, but are thinking about picking up a metallic pinktoe in Oct. Hmmm....

all cool looking spiders but im partial to the h lividum myself. nothing like a huge blue female to come roaring out of its hole at you! lol

Both of my Cobalt Blues do just that. Then again I have two Rose Hairs that I swear have springs under their butts. :sidestep:

Thanks for that! The significant other and I were debating what my next snake could be... I want a Ball Python and she insists on another corn snake because "ball pythons are too big, fat and scary." And I sent her this link and said "Could be worse- this could be my collection."

Smoothed things over right away.

*is off to find a really big can o' raid* :sidestep:

Kidding... honest. I can appreciate their beauty from afar, or even up close so long as they are caged and I am on the other side of the glass from them. But to own one, I'd eventually have to take it OUT of its cage and that ain't happening.

I have to give Kudos to someone who has the cajones to own these things..and not just one or two...but a whole bunch...
I would not be able to sleep if those were in my house. I can appreciate their beauty in pictures, and occasionally seeing one behind glass, but I couldn't deal with them in my house.

Especially after that comment about "springs under their butts". LOL...seeing one jump just once and it would be death by toilet or raid or whatever else was handy. Probably sounds horrible, but I am a huge arachnaphobe. Wish I could get past it as they would make great subjects for my photography but I just don't see it happening!

"Boris the Spider"by The Who is stuck in my head now. Creepy, crawly, creepy creepy crawly...

Thanks a lot Jen...now I am going to have this stuck in my head now too!! You are one of the very few people I have ever known who actually knew that song!!

I've seen some awewome centipedes while hiking in Georgia. And Florida is full of giant millepedes. I can't believe that the things I paid good money for when I lived in Minnesota are running wild all over the place down here!! Great pics...

*Backs out of thread very slowly..*

j/k

I'm terrified of spider, but I have to say that those are some nice looking freaks!

It's rather amusing to have people who have snakes who are afraid of spiders. A lot of spider keepers I know are phobic about snakes. I just don't understand it... :shrugs:

Nice spiders. I was just going to post the same thing about "snake" people being afraid of spiders LOL.
My sister has a big ole spider, it creeps me out. I can't remember the kind she has but it's big and creepy hehe. She won't hold snakes and I won't hold her tarantula.

It just came to me how I laugh at my hubby for being afraid of snakes, I guess I feel the same way about spider :shrugs:
Guess I should be more understanding :)

My fear of spiders comes from their variable affect of their venom. I fear the worst in how getting bit may affect me. I know I won't die, but there are worse things than dying! :eek1:

That being said, I still have tarantulas as I am enthralled with their beauty. I also 'practice what I preach' in that if I expect people to face their fears with snakes, I better at least make an attempt to face my fears with tarantulas. I will one day hold one, I just don't know when . . .

Just don't take the chance...

I am against the handling of the spiders. For both the person's sake as well as the spider's. I have held them before (their choice to get on me as opposed to going into the deli cup) but I'd rather not get bitten. I'd also rather not be the cause of the spider getting injured or dying (they can actually pop if dropped) due to the inevitable movement of getting bitten.

The fear responses that we have seen on this thread in response to the spiders is sadly enough the same of the majority of people when you mention snakes...even sweet little corn snakes. I think through further education and experience some of these phobias could be stopped but its of course difficult when only faced with media expenditures, wives tails, and images. Its hard to beleive by us snake owners that people could be scared of these creatures though...Is it the same for you as Spider owner? Do you laugh at those who are scared and think it's silly??

I use to have a fear of spiders as well. Funny enough, once I got bit by a brown recluse last year and went through 6 months of shear hell..after that I figured I had gotten the worst of a spider and made it through, so there is nothing to be fearful of now! Obviously, I am respectful of the fact they are a wild animals though and treat them as such. I would find no pleasure in handling them, but I don't go killing every one I see like I did at one time.

With all that being said. Those are beautiful spiders you have shown. Quite diverse ...

Yep. I just can't understand it. There are many people out there who have various phobias which seem strange to others. There are some people who are afraid of dogs, open spaces, spiders or even cornsnakes. Some fears are instilled by their parents (my Mom was afraid of snakes and she got that fear from her Mother. Luckily it skipped a generation) the media or television (anyone remember when Jaws came out?).

Thanks Dawn.

Ya... my skin is officially crawling, itchy, BLEGH!

Great collection you've got there but... man! :sidestep:

I have an irrational fear of ALL bugs... including butterflies and lady bugs!

Love my snakes, but if they ate bugs... I wouldnt have em. :grin01: Thank goodness they eat mice.

I admit my arachnophobia, sadly. I can see the irony of backing off from a spider collection and then going home to cuddle with snakes. :grin01:

However, I understand that even though they creep me out for unknown reasons, that most of them mean me no harm. That's why I won't really get freaked out unless they are on me. In a tank or a deli cup: perfectly fine. :wavey:

how funny. . . .

i had a dream last night. . .my snake got a new tank(which he is) and i bought a TERANTULA to occupy my old 1, i wouldnt say im SCARED of spiders, i just dont like them, i would be ok with a terantula in my hands, under professional supervision. just had to tell you that :)

It's something about their speed and legs combined that freaks me out. And to be perfectly honest, the smaller they are, the more freaked out I get. At least with a tarantula, it is big and I can see it. With those little tiny spiders, I lose them and the "unknown" aspect then causes me to flip out more.

It's a totally irrational fear. I have never once had a spider bite me (that I know of) nor any other bad spider experiences.

My 1st time!!!

Had to resurrect this thread. I was in a pet shop today and held an adult rose hair tarantula and while it was real cool to watch how gracefully it moved and how cool it looked and felt, I decided I really don't need one; I want one, but I don't need one.:grin01:
