Hey Arson - is today the day?

Arson said:
DAND, Sandra did not get her snake from Kathy, that was me. She got hers from Gardenmum.

Kathy explained to me the magic of "the card." I have kept both the Post-It note she included in the picture and the label on the deli cup.

My bad.

beautiful, Arson!! Let us know how her first feeding goes!

Quigs - you didn't sound critical to me either - merely curious. :)

oh, by the way, Arson, Gardenmum didn't breed my girl like I thought. She thinks she was born in August of last year. Judging by how she looked in her feeding container, I'm guessing her length at about 24 inches, but Gardenmum is going to help me figure that out when I can get a photo of her next to a ruler.

While I have the camera, I figured I'd post a few more pics of the viv.

First feeding!

Well, after a good while her feeding is complete! Yay!

I imagine it didn't really take longer than it should have. She spent the first half hour trying to find a way out of the container. She kept sniffing at the pinkie but would jerk back every time she touched it with her tongue and would run off somewhere else. After about 45 minutes I decided to cut the head off the pinkie and put both the head and the body in the container. I watched patiently and noticed she kept trying to get out of the container in my direction...like she was tryingn to get to me. So, I put her on my bed alone in my room with no one there. I gave her about 20 minutes and peeked back in to find her gulping down the last bit of the body of the pinkie...quite quickly, I might add.

So, she's eaten her first F/T whole pink (since I've had her) and I put her back in her viv much to her delight.

I didn't get any shots of her swallowing the pinkie because I left her alone, but here are some pics of the container, Mika, the Pinkie, and my first time handling her!

I'm going to completely love keeping herps!

Hey Arson, did you handle your Mika again tonight? We just had about a 5 minute handling session, and she did GREAT! When I removed her hide, she didn't move at all (no apparent fear). When I put my hand in front of her, she just smelled it. Then I picked her up and she crawled all up and down and around my arms and hands. Unfortunately, I didn't take any photos this time, but will try to get some soon. I hope you're having as much fun with your girl as I am with mine! :D

Hey Arson! How's your Mika doing? We haven't seen ours since we fed her a huge fuzzy on Thursday as we were out of town this weekend. We just took her out of her viv and she was PISSED. It was a riot! She snaked her tail into my pocket and tried so hard to get away. When she calmed down, I put her back in her viv (she never tried to bite, though, which is surprising). The reason for the behavior is that she is in her blue phase - her eyes are completely clouded over and I can't wait to see her new skin when she sheds! This is so fun!! I hope you are enjoying your girl just as much. :)

The only bummer is that I didn't have my camera handy tonight.

Just wondering

Arson and Sandra-
Your snakes are gourgous. I was wondering where you ordered them from?
P.S. put some more pics on-line, I really enjoy looking at your youngons.

Hey Sandra! I was actually a bit worried about Mika since she hasn't really come out the last two days, even at night. So today I pulled off her hide and she was all curled up. I thought the worst the way she was laying...I bumped her side gently and she whipped around on my not looking happy AT ALL. Her eyes are decidedly cloudy! Shedtime, yay! I've given her a moist hide option and misted her and her viv. We'll see how this works out. Her eyes are a dull color, so it has to be shedding. Our snakes are more similar than we thought, eh?

Potosh, I ordered my snake from Kathy Love (www.cornutopia.com) and Sandra got hers from a member on this very forum, gardenmum. Gardenmum seems to carry some beautiful snakes.

funny stuff, Arson! Let me know how your girl's shed comes along. I'm leaving on a long trip tomorrow and was concerned I wouldn't be able to feed Mika before I left, but she cooperated beautifully! I got home tonight and she had shed (as well as pooped in her water dish!) so I just fed her and she's happy as can be. Her shed came off all in one piece and she's sure purty. My camera battery needs a charge, so no pics this time. Good luck with your Mika!

Potash, Arson is correct - I got my snake from Gardenmum. She has a website linked in her signature. I'm super pleased with my snake and would buy from Gardenmum again in a heartbeat! I'll get some more pics up after my vacation. I did put several in the photo forum about 2 weeks ago. Cheers!

I came home tonight to find that Mika has shed, yay! It came off in one perfect piece, eyecaps and all. It's awesome. Also, her behavior has changed already as I had not seen her roaming about nearly a week and she's already poking her head out tonight. I'll have a look at her tomorrow when I feed her to see how her color has improved.

Go Mikas!

I haven't been keeping up with this site - shame on me! I'm just checking in on your Mika, Arson. How is she doing these days? My little Mika is quite easy going. Sometimes we handle her a lot, sometimes we leave her alone for a week or more at a time (we travel a lot). She definitely tries to get away from me when I reach in her viv, but is very calm when I handle her. She's still eating like a champ and poops in her 2nd water dish for me. What a great pet!

As a side note, my kids have lost interest in her. She's all mine now. MUHAHAHA! I don't mind. She's very cool.
