Hello...

Not new to the website, but a new user. Before I got my snakes I did a great deal of research and found this amazing site and read and reread many posts. So here is a BIG THANK YOU to everyone on this site and the great information provided.

I have a lovely Amel named Gracie, who I got last summer, whom I am guessing is in her 2nd year. She went a little crazy in April and most of May, doing manic laps around her house, trying desperately to get out. She's calmed down now and has gone back to normal.

My Laz is a normal whom I got last September. I imagine he (or she) was born last summer.

For fellow desert dwellers here (I live in the Phoenix metro area), do you turn off the heat mats in the summer? I don't run the air in my apartment during day since I work. When I do run it, I keep it at 78 (I'm a true desert rat, below 78 and I get cold). My apartment usually sits between 81 and 83.

Both of my snakes rarely use their warm sides, even when digesting. I have a mind to just unplug the heat mats for the summer, but wanted some of your opinions.

Thank you!!

Hi and welcome. I live in the valley, and I keep my mats on all year round, just to make sure they have that 85 hot spot. I keep my house at 77, so they need that little boost in there. You might find cypress helpful for keeping humidity up; not sure what you're using for housing though, so you might not need it. Welcome to the club, and you should post pics.

Thanks, Joba. :)

They're on aspen. I increase the humidity in their vivs when they're in their shed cycles, just to be on the safe side. So far all their sheds have been clean.

Attempting to post pictures. Hope this works.
