See? This thread is one reason I don't give numbers of pets in this house, usually. The perception from others that we're some sort of freaks and/or hoarders, despite the fact that I am home all day and my husband makes a good salary that keeps us all healthy and happy, here....
I can tell you this, though, 30 snakes are easier to care for than 8 macaws or 10 dogs, by far!
I don't breed birds, dogs or snakes, although this year may be a different story, as I hope to be lucky enough to have two clutches this year--Okeetees and a breeding (I HOPE) between a gorgeous Tessera and my sunglow/amel stripe. Half of the TesseraxSunglow/Amel clutch would belong to the owner of the Tessera who is here on breeding loan.
Too many? Certainly, not yet! I may modify and/or revise my snakes over time when some animals don't work out, here (my AZ Mtn. Kingsnake and Apricot Pueblan Milksnake come to mind), but I doubt if I'd ever be able to keep my snake collection at 4 or 5 animals. I just ADORE my snakes! And, yes, I handle them. Some more than others. But the thing is, they're easy to care for. Only feeding time gets hectic, which we manage by staggering feeding days.
