How to euthanize

Yes i got 3 snakes now and with money some what tight i was thinking i should start a mice colony. I was just wondering how to you euthanize the mice. thanks everyone.

There is a great deal of controversy on this subject. I have tried many methods myself. Some more successful than others. I think you need to keep in mind that the main objective is that the mouse should die quickly with as little discomfort as possible. This needs to include the discomfort of stress and fear during the time leading up to death. Many people fail to take that into consideration. I believe that as much as possible the mouse should be completely unaware of its imminent death. It’s for this reason I use a 12-gauge shotgun. I personally feel that 1 ¼ oz of #5 shot is best. This gives you a tight enough pattern to do the job and the individual pellets have enough mass to do substantial damage. If you stand back 10 yards or so from the intended victim he will have little or no inkling of what is to come.

You don't have to be a sharpshooter either. This method is way easier than using the .357 magnum:madeuce:

A shotgun? Is that a real anwser or you just fooling? I would never think of that being a method even with baby pinkies

I have tried smaller calibers and pistols but no matter how good of a shot you are, every once in a while you are going to wing one. I couldn’t live with my self if that were to happen.

The great thing with the shotgun idea is that with baby pinkies you can do a whole litter in one shot.

That was great. I laughed for at least 10 minutes.
But seriously IMHO CO2 methods work well if you have the equipment. Personally I live feed anything that is younger than sub adult, after that........

I don’t understand why people think my information is funny. This is a serious question from a serious herper. I’ve taken time out of my busy day to try and help this fellow out and everyone thinks it’s funny. Nobody likes to be laughed at you know. I have feelings too. I don’t really care about the mouse you are about to euthanize. I’ve never met him and have no common ground with him. What about me and the way I feel about it? I’m the one that is going to have to live with this horrific deed. I’m the one who is going to have to explain it to my children. And now I’m the one being laughed at.

I found a site where its said you could make a container put the container in the a bucket and fill it with a couple of inches of water and put dry ice in it. That would work right

yes, dry ice is solid CO2 which sublimes (goes directly to gasseous CO2 state)

I've found that dry ice works better and faster than CO2, but unless you are gassing ALOT of mice at one time it is hard to find a small enough quantity of it to be cost effective. The CO2 from the paintball store is probably the way you'll want to go for a small number of mice, so that you don't have to buy a $10 block of dry ice- use maybe $0.50 worth and put the rest in the freezer to evaporate( it will not be there when you go back for it). Aside from the gassing, there is always cervical dislocation (deemed acceptable), but I personally feel this method is less humaine than a whack over the head.

And as for the shotgun reply... if there was a poll asking for the funniest sarcastic reply...you would get my vote:roflmao:
