How to you keep a plastic viv for a BP warm enough?

How many holes should i have in it? There are ten on the top about the size of my pinkie nail, and about seven on the sides.

Sorry im posting on here like its twitter or something but i keep thinking of things i need to say. The UTH isnt sticking very well to the bottom of the tub. I am going to go get that duct tape right now.

You are really going to stress the poor thing out by poking holes in the tub while he is in it or even having to keep taking him out and poking holes. I was hoping you would of waited before getting one. ~sigh~ I had high hopes.

May I ask where you got your bp? If it is from a chain pet store, more than likely you are going to have a heck of a time getting the poor thing started on food.

Don't even bother taping the heat mat. It'll make your life so much easier when you clean and bleach the tub to not need to worry about it being there. Duct tape also presents a fire hazard if you're not diligent about checking on it all the time.

I am done touching everything i swear. My temps are perfect and i lowered the humidity. She is being really active since i got a heater and put more holes in it. I dont know if this is a good or bad thing. I did get it from a pet store, but they had only been there two days. Im not going to touch anything else including her for another week ( except water). I will take a picture of everything right now and show you.

The foil tape might catch on fire?

He is the tub on the bottom. And the picture inside her tank has two hides, but they are hidden with moss.

ahhh.. true enough, I didn't know that they could stay that tiny for soon long, but being picky eaters and so on does make sence. :)

but if I read the OPs reply right, you have only been feeding him once a week his whole life?

this may be the reason for him still being soo tiny.. your feeding him on a 'maintenance shedual' witch is what pet stores do to keep them looking like babies, as you mentioned.

most people feed hatchlings every five days, moving up to six and seven days as the prey sizes increase. This will help your snake grow, I don't mean to just jump into the Convo..

I'm just trying to help..

Not really true either.. I've never had a snake that I fed more than once a week. I tried to do the every 5 days thing with a few but then I wasn't home to feed or I'd forgot the last feeding day. My current 2011s are between 50 and 300 grams or so. As long as the prey size is appropriate they'll keep growing. Some are just slower.

And to the OP I didn't see the part about foil tape, I saw someone mention duct tape. Either way, still seems like a pain in the butt to me. I have never attached a UTH to anything so I can move my cages at a later date and not need to worry about the pad.

Nothing wrong with helping and you were just giving the information that you knew. It also provides a learning experience for you as well.

Feeding once a week is also except-able. All my snakes are fed once a week. And my babies grow faster than most. lol Like Alicat, it is just easier for me to remember. Maintenance is really getting more into feeding every 2 weeks or sometimes more.

very true, I swear I learn something new everytime I come on this site!
thanks for correcting me, and helping me out too! :)

is that plastic tub that im using too tall and not long enough? if i cover the sides with towels will air still be able to get in?

You need a thermostat to work the UTH. With a thermostat, the temperature on the heat mat will stay what you set it at, so 90 degrees is below your body temperature. Unless you have superhuman powers, plastic doesn't melt at body temperature, or below lol.

Lol well i have a thermostat that will be here on wednesday. But when i feel like heat pad it feels hotter than my body temp

Put the probe of your thermometer on it and measure its heat. Without a thermostat they can reach up to 120 degrees.

I am sorry but your lol at the beginning of your lost post just struck me as wrong. Because many here have or have known people who have lost their collections or animals due to a malfunction in the UTH or heattape and it melts the plastic and killing the snake who dies in a horrible manner.

I would go get a lamp dimmer pronto to put on there until your thermostat gets here.

Human body temp is usually 98.6 if it feels hot to the touch it is way to hot for your snake.

Feeding once a week is not maintenance feeding. Most people I know feed their babies once a week. Some feel that every 5 days is too much. Feeding every 5 days is ok, depending on the species. Some species that stress more as babies benefit more from stretching out the feedings a little.
My babies (both Cornsnakes & Carpet Pythons) do very well on 7 day feeding, & are growing at a good rate.

I sometimes vary mine, ranging 5-7 days apart for feeding babies, but for the most part, I feed once a week. My adult males get fed every 2-3 weeks depending on species & prey size.

Edit to add: Autumn's link is definitely a MUST READ for anyone new to BP's
