Icelandic Volcano

Save The Humans
Now here is a quote form a government official. Don’t try to pin this guy down on anything specific.

"It is more or less the same situation as yesterday, it is still erupting, still exploding, still producing gas," University of Iceland professor Armann Hoskuldsson told Reuters.
"We expect it to last for two days or more or something.

If anyone finds a way of telling when a basic/ultrabasic volcano is going to quiet down or when its going to get excited it would be a licence to print money... Iceland is about the only place where the MOR meets the surface, they have more eruptions than americans have fast food (hell, lets ride the comparison to breaking point - explosive eruptions are akin to what happens when the couch potatos blood meets the blocked artery - just a little prettier)- this one is just a more excitable one than is usual...

The Intermediate/Acidic volcanos are a little easier - watch them swell, watch them swell some more, and make sure the pretty brunette in her early 20's is not in the pick-up when the nuee ardente/pyroclastic flows hit. Pyroclastics - 600kmh - pickup 120kmh - cooked cutie *sigh*...

Although thinking about it - yellowstone is a huge active caldera - if we could convince all the rednecks and racists and fervent godbotherers to move there - would make the world a nicer place in a few years :flames:

btw, you really dont want to know what several km2 of ultra small rock particles can do to a jet engine... which is why there is all the fuss at the moment

Wait, I've been practicing my reporter....

Sources close to sources close to the volcano say it can stop erupting as early as today...

Joke around all you want - for someone who works in the travel industry I just want to say THIS SUCKS!!!!!

I know this sucks for everyone out there trying to go somewhere but can't because of all the ashes in the air.

But I personally enjoy Mother Nature showing us that she is still in charge. A lot of humans think that we are the driving force of the earth... well, nope, the world surprisingly does not revolve around the Human Race... I just hope that no one was hurt.

I was, I was supposed to be going fishing in Norway with Martin Bernstein. My new Jewish Viking Friend.

But it's OK for the post menopausal biddies in their Toyota sedans right :roflmao:

Wade... That volcano is awesome....
It's producing ash that is being sent into the jet stream...
All planes have been grounded and all airports closed...
All our managers and a couple of directors are stuck in Germany... They went out on monday to audit a supplier....
And the only Manager who isn't stuck in Germany is a horrible little man... Who was going on holiday tomorrow. But they have cancelled his flight...
Karma.......
BTW... Above my house is the air space Golf one..... It's the most congested air space out side of London.... It's where planes turn..... LOL
I've never seen it without a criss cross of jet trails before.....

Mike, can you see ash? Is it falling on you? Which way is the wind blowing?

When Mt. St. Helen erupted my brother lived in Seattle. He sent me an envelope of ash. The post office asked people to quit mailing ash because it was leaking out and screwing up their machines.

I was living in Portland when Mt. St. Helens erupted, and used to have glass jars full of ash that I scraped off my car. I remember friends selling pottery and stuff they made out of it on Ebay... maybe still do, damn hippies, lmao...

I wonder how long before we see some of it over here, like the red dust from Africa...

Being just to the east of London we get a lot of overhead traffic out of the City Of London airport..........I'd say it's been very pleasantly quiet today :)

But I also understand how hard it must be for the people in travel, not being able to give decisive answers to passengers.........
