I've posted a couple of times in some of the other areas, but I figured it could never hurt to officially introduce myself.

I've been lurking on this forum for a couple months. There is so much helpful information from so many friendly corn enthusiasts! I was excited to see current posts from people that have written books that I have read (Kathy Love comes to mind). It's awesome to be a part of something that the experts are a part of too! I usually feel a little uncomfortable when I join a new forum, mostly because of the general attitude of existing members towards newbies, but I just didn't see that happening here, so I decided to join up. I am oh-so-glad that I did!
I got into cornsnakes a long time ago, but never felt that the time was right until a little over a year ago. I bought Kathy Love's corn manual and read it cover to cover, got my viv set up and went in search of my new snake. I looked at both PetsMart and PetCo in my area and (luckily!) neither had any available. I went home and did some looking through the phonebook and found a place called Pets-A-Plenty (aka UltimateReptiles). Love the shop, love the people, love the animals. I purchased my first corn there (a Reverse Okeetee named Grimm) and couldn't have been happier. Unfortunately, Grimmy got loose in the weeks following Hurricane Ike due to some irritatingly ignorant relatives who took the top off of his viv while I was away. I waited about 6 months before getting another (just in case he showed up again) and got a female Reverse Okeetee from the same place (my little Ryplee). Since then, my collection has expanded to include two more corns. I got incredibly lucky with them... I happened to be leaving the local PetCo and looked at the lost/found/needs-a-home board and saw an ad for "2 big, beautiful corn snakes free to good home." Who could resist that? I called about them, went and saw them and brought them home (along with a Bearded Dragon that needed to go too). The girl who had them had just gotten married and her hubby was NOT a herp guy at all. She needed to downsize and it was just my luck that I was in the right place at the right time! The new additions are an adult male Okeetee and an adult female Sunglow Stripe. I recently named them after observing them for a while... the male is IRA (always all caps as it's an acronym for "Insolent Red Arse" as he's taken a liking to the flavor of my fingertips) and the female is "Reenie," a combined name from "Red" and "Meanie" because she is, quite frankly, verymuch both of those.
I have a great love for just about any critter. My house is full of a diverse number of animals ranging from dogs and cats to reptiles and fish. I love talking about them all, so to get it out of my system, I'll list them and then never annoy anyone with this again
I personally have 3 dogs and my roommate has another. Silver is the 13yo Heeler mix and is the pack leader (aka the "alpha bitch" with emphasis on the second part), Steele is a mush of a Rottie, Sabre is our 75lb supermodel Dobie and Riley is the roomie's Lab/Pitty mix (though the roomie has deluded himself into thinking that he's a Boxer mix... :nope
There are four felines in the house: Tiny- a Manx with an "I own everything. EVERYTHING." attitude, Miles- a pudgy FEMALE that got named before she was correctly sexed (it's almost as hard to sex a 2 week old kitten as it is to visually sex some other certain animals ), and then there's Sol and Sylas- brothers from a litter born to an old friend. They're especially dear to me as they and I have the same birthday (albeit 24 years apart). Notably, they were also born on a Friday the 13th...
The remainder category of my "zoo" contains a Chinchilla- Simon aka the noisy creature in that weird-looking cabinet; a Species-Unknown aquatic turtle aptly named Tortuga; a Three-Toed Box Turtle named Neumann (after the road he was almost killed on); the afore-mentioned Beardie- the boyfriend named her Pancake and it was just so derned cute to see him walk around the house with her perched against his chest while he cooed "Paaaannncaaaaaake" to her that I left her with the silly name and then there's the several Betta fish and a couple of gold Gourami scattered about the house as well.
I'm still learning all the time about corns. I consider myself an ultra-noob still and try my best to understand and retain the info I read on here. I struggle a little bit with the genetics and keeping the names straight, but the more I read, the easier it's becoming for me. Please, have patience with me as I learn. This site is a fantastic learning tool and I am very much glad that I found it!
Okay-dokey. If you're still reading this (and haven't fallen asleep), thanks! I'm always open to meeting new people. Drop me a line and say hi!
