Interesting resting/hide spot...

I gotta say, I think that this is about the weirdest spot that I've seen her in so far.

Where's Aries? o_O

There she is!

So, is this normal for hatchlings/corns to do? I believe that her temps in the tank are fine. On the warm side, the thermometer reads from 82.6-87.9. I have no idea why she would do this, aside from her needing a really tight spot to fit into. What do you guys think? Is it ok for her to be doing this? Or is she trying to tell me somethings wrong?

Here's a pic of what her viv. setup looks like.

She could be saying something's wrong; my first corn, an '07 anery, did it when I first got her, because her hot side was above 90* (the thermostat hadn't arrived yet)... And, yeah, I seriously mean she spent more time above the hot side than she did opting for the cool side until her thermostat arrived. My suggestion would be to get a digital thermometer to double-check (I assume you're going by the analog in the picture? and invest in a thermostat, if you haven't already.

Then again, she could be doing it just for the sake of the tight spot! When the anery girl was upgraded to an Exo-Terra glass terrarium, she discovered the gap between the background and the screen and fell in LOVE... Until she got too big for it; now she squeezes herself nice and tight into a too-small cardboard tube. Lol! In addition, I bought the smallest size Exo-Terra for my little '08 Bloodred boy when the cat broke his Faunarium. Whenever I can't find him under his little warm-side hide, he's usually in that same gap between the background and the screen... He loves it!

So, it could be either thing. Check on the temps thing before you make any assumptions about her just liking the tight space, but don't be surprised if she keeps going back after you fix any temp problems. =)

That is one beautiful snake! My Rose does that every now and then. I love it when she dangles from the little lip up there doing a tree python impression lol!

We've had two hatchlings do the exact same thing in just one enclosure (one lived in that tank before we got our rack, then the tank was disinfected and reused a few months later). I think ours just like the tight spot where they can squish in. The way that the tank is arranged they can easily climb up and I think the view is just too tempting. :)

They are funny, aren't they! When I got my first corn, she spent most of her time, wrapped around her dial thermometer. We would have to go in and untangle her, if we wanted to take her out!

Nice Snakey!

Actually, I'm using a digital thermometer with probe. It's the Zoo Med one, I believe. I just didn't capture it on any of the pics. It's placed in the corner left, and the probe is placed in the warm hide (the coconut) slightly under the substrate.

*sigh* It's good to hear that her behavior is not an abnormality. Thanks guys for all the responses. I really appreciate your reassurances. Corns are quite the interesting species, I gotta say. Also, thank you for the complements on Aries. =) Makes me blush with pride. Lol. Oh, and if any of you were interested, I posted pics of her in the photo gallery (a few days back). It's under the title "Aries [the Bloodred] God of War". Lol, I wanted to put a flare to her thread name and give a reference to her name sake, so yeah. Not to mention, at the time, it sounded pretty epic. :bird:

Also, another question. When I go to check on her, I see her mostly in her cool hide. The log in the back right. I guess, it's because she feels more secure in it, because it allows her to see around her viv. without poking her head outside of her hide. In her warm hide, when she's trying to peer out, she pokes her head out of the entrance. So, I was wondering if I should replace the coconut with another log. Since, I have a spare one. Or if I should just leave it alone. I figured she would come to the warm hide eventually, if she was cold. But, I really don't know. So, what do you guys think?

Aw she's so cute!! My blizzard used to do that when he fit. He LOVED crawling up there. I hated when I had to feed him cause when I would open it, he would fall...

And at that time when he was too big but still trying to 'squeeze' into that small space, I felt bad so I put in a paper towel roll to give him another close and comfy place to curl up in. =]

My baby rosy boa does that exact same thing--when he gets antsy and hungry he'll climb up the thermometer probe and squeeze himself in the ledge. This is harder for him then a corn, cause he is pretty chubby, but he loves to climb and then try to escape. He only does this when he is hungry, and since he wont eat every time he's offered it is a clue when to try offering him something.

Okay! Just making sure. =)

Lol! Don't worry about it. You can try putting the extra log in on the warm side, but she probably just doesn't need to heat up while she isn't digesting. Unless he JUST ate, my anery boy stays strictly on his cold side--and his hides are identical!

Aren't the little ones just so cute? Sarcare, I already wanted a rosy boa--you aren't helping!! Lol! ;)

Alright. =) Thanks so much guys for reassuring me on Aries behavior. I was really worried for a second. Lol. But, it's good to hear that it's just normal behavior. Thanks so much!

Agree with everybody else...it's perfectly normal!

This is how one of mine used to digest EVERY meal...

Wow. Now that's something. Digesting in that position must be some feat. What is it hanging from?! It looks like it's glued to the glass.

One of my 08s is getting way too big to fit in the lip of the lid,but he tries anyway! I constantly hear him all night(in my bedroom) flopping back onto the aspen. Now another one of my 08s can still fit and will actually do laps around it! Quite comical to watch at night laying in bed! She is getting big enough, though, that unless she's doing it really slowly, she can't make the corners without falling. Both use their warm and cool hides during the day. This seems to be just a nightly thing. I figure they're either exercising or desperately trying to find a way out!

He would wrap around the thermometer probe cords and just sit there for hours on end. They are goofy little creatures!

my baby amel did that alot when we first got him. I thought he escaped at first, when I found him I had to laugh.

Lol. Yeah, at first I thought she was just burrowed in the bottom of the substrate. But, then when I looked up I just happened to catch her there. I almost feel backwards in surprise. ^_^;;;

I had a snake that did that. It is funny. As she got bigger she started regurging her meals just so that she could get up around the lip of the cage (happened 3 times in a month). I ended up putting her in a shoe box for a year until she was too big to get up on the lip.
