Your age says you're 17. Are you still in High School? Going to college or anything after you graduate? If you are, have a plan for that and present that during this process. You don't want to have it for a year and then go away to college and have to leave it with your parents to take care of.

Plus, this would really show to them that you're planning long term for your snake and that this is a legit interest and not some whim.
 
Thank you. as for the college issue-- I have to live at home for 2 years before I can even think about moving. So hopefully I'll have time to find an apartment that will accept aquarium pets.
