i will post pics soon

Pics alone won't help us know if the tank is a proper set up or not. How are you measuring his temps?

What type of thermometer is what I meant :)
You need a digital thermometer with a probe. That way you can set the probe right over the heat mat, under the substrate. That's where the temperature matters.

if you read my post you would have noticed that i said i use a heat lamp works great too on the warm side my therm is right above his hide on the cool side it is on the ground

whoops nvm sorry alicat i thought i mentioned that i used a heat lamp his warm temps are always 80-90 and his cool temps are always at 65-80 his humidity is usually 40-60 and around 80 or so when i spray his tank

Even if you are using a heat lamp, you'd still be better off with a digital thermometer. The little dial type ones from petsmart/petco can be off in 20 degrees either direction. Just a little FYI.
I used to use those dial thermometers before I had the thermostats, and it read that my temps were low, or okay. Once I had the digital thermometer I realized my temps were far too hot.

i also feel the inside of the tank to see if its too hot if it is then i turn the heatlamp off

The people on this forum have a LOT more experience than you. I'd listen to what they are saying, rather than just tell them why you aren't going to listen.

Just my $.02

"Too hot" in Corn Snake terms is very difficult to gauge by touch. A human's core body temperature is around 96 degrees, which is about 10 degrees higher than a Corn's ideal maximum.

If you touch a surface in a Corn's tank and it feels warm or hot, then as a rough guide it will feel scalding to a Corn. You're looking for it to feel lukewarm slightly cool. As you can see, it's difficult to tell the difference and your touch certainly won't be enough to tell "too hot" from "warm enough and safe".

I echo the warning about plastic dial type thermometers (also cardboard strip types). My nephew had one in his Corn Snake starter kit and when the heat mat was accidentally switched off, the thermometer didn't even move.

That is not an accurate way at telling the temperature either. Your body temp is 98 so even if it feels warm to you it's most likely too hot. You need a digital thermometer with a probe, not a dial thermometer.

What feels warm to you might be way to hot for a corn snake. The best set up is an UTH with a thermostat and a digital thermometer. A heat lamp can suck all the humidity out of the tank causing bad sheds. It is easier to regulate temps with a UTH in my opinion. Instead of turning the heat lamp off and on. The snake cant readily regulate its own temps especially after they eat if you feel the lamp is too hot and turn it off. Again this is just my opinion.

dial thermometers can be way off... speaking from experience. You can pick up a zoo med digital thermometer for 7 bucks at Petco or Pet Smart.

The safety and happiness of your snake is not wasting money to get the proper set up

OK i freaking get it, i should go get a digital therm can u shut up now, every single post exept for mine have been about heat and i know that body temp is about 96 degrees but try feeling something that is 80 degrees sometime, trust me it still feels warm

ignore my last post i tried u were right, and i dont even jugde it by how hot it is i make sure it is a little cool to me so that it is ok for the snake and FYI my therms have never been inacurate

You will get more help, if you lose the attitude. You came here asking for help, we give it to you and then you pop an attitude? I dont get it.

It is not very nice to tell people to shut up either. That will probably get you in trouble with the mods faster than anything else. Just trying to help you out.

What is the point of asking if your tank setup is good if you don't want to hear the answer? The people who answered were just trying to help you and your snake and were answering the question that you asked. You shouldn't be rude to people who are trying to help you and are only answering the question you asked. If you don't want to hear what people have to say then don't ask questions. The reason every post was about heat is because that is the most important thing, if it is too hot or too cold it will harm the snake.

Here is one for $6, that's cheaper then most of those stupid dial thermometers.

How do you no they are not inaccurate if you don't have a thermometer that works? We use the dial thermometers at my work and I have put a digital thermometer in the tanks to check the difference and the dial thermometers are normally always at least 10-20 degrees off.
