I think their crazy. I can't even imagine one child in my life at the moment, let alone 18.

haha Wade! I saw the story, but not this...

Personally I think that they need to slow down with the whole children thing. 18 is a little much. My family is large (grandma was one of 16, I have one aunt and uncle who have 10 another who has 8, and my oldest cousin already has 7 of her own - there are too many more to get into) and I think that is too much.

How can you be a proper mother or father to 18 children? Its just too much for any couple.

Wade--congratulations on your new family member! I think you need a new family picture, I don't see all your kids in that one!

The thing about large families like that is that they can be a good or a bad thing, many of them run extremely smoothly because everyone knows that they are needed and have a place and responsibilities in the house. I grew up in an area where there were lots of large families, and one thing I can say is that even though the families were large they were usually a whole lot closer then smaller families and they usually spent a lot more time together then smaller families.

Of course it does frequently require older children to take on more responsibilites at a younger age then in smaller families, so they get less of a childhood. But there are worse things then an overdeveloped sense of responsibility.

(and for the record, I have three sisters and a brother, which I don't consider a particularly large family)

I watch this show sometimes, but get a little tired of all the sweetness, "tator tot casserole" sounds good. The Duggers have no debt, cash all the way and a 7000 sq ft house, and a pantry that looks like a small store. They make there own laundry soap out of one bar of soap. There eldest son is marrying a young woman he has never even kissed.
My grand-mother was one of 18 children, so I don't know know.
I just don't get it though that womens body must be really worn out by now and I don't get the point of 18.

What really makes me giggle though is that all 18kids have names that begin with the letter J.

I thought Joe's family had a lot of J names - but this family takes the cake!

Man, I've known families like that--a LOT, strangely it is always J! My aunt comes from a family like that--her name is JayLynne

I thought they were on number 19? Or maybe that was the J family that Katie was talking about... there was one family from Romania that immigrated to Canada that just had number 18.

yeah i read it too.... the oldest just married and wants a big family too...i just cant imagine marrying someone and i have no clue what their kiss is like. and the parents want even more kids!!! like... 1 moved out.. lets have another!! golly jeepers...

well at least they're married!
my grandfather had a total 16 children with 5 different women, and only married three of them.

i can't imagine what giving /birth/ to 18 children would be like
i bet by the 10th they'd probably just pop out randomly.

I guess...and perhaps this is just me...but if you really wanted to have a large family like that, why not adopt? There are so many perfectly beautiful, healthy kids out there who are in need of a good home, which it sounds like the Duggars could provide. I didn't think that I'd ever get pregnant due to health issues, so I started to look into adoption options -- and then surprise-surprise! But my next will most likely be adopted...I'm glad that the Duggars feel the need to fill the Earth with their children (though I don't know how Mrs Duggar's hips handle it any longer! Those kids must just slide on out now!), but I really do think it's a shame...:uhoh:

It's just one cavernous slip-n-slide!!! :laugh01: :rofl::grin01:
No, but seriously, you did bring up an excellent point about adoption. While people like Angelina Jolie are a little extreme (there's enough starving kids in THIS country), a lot of good can come from adoption.

What does her husband do for a living??? How can they afford that? Good thing they don't live in China...

Instead of just typing it, let the record show that upon reading the caption of that pic, I truly laughed out loud for a good half minute.

CLASSIC.

Of course, I had to see reactions about this story from commenters on the other snarky sites I frequent. A LOT of funny photos, MOST of them not suitable for a family site, but this one made me chuckle.

(For those of you who are basketball impaired, it's Shawn Kemp, another notorious breeder.....)

And at this point, I would think that the OB/GYN looks something like this....

Every time I hear about them, I think of that Monty Python skit where the baby drops out while mom is doing the dishes. Every sperm is sacred you know.

They truly frighten me. How selfish can you be. Those poor children.
How do they afford it? Easy..media attention and specials on TV, the church they belong to also supports them.

I shudder to think that every one of those kids is going to think it's perfectly OK to have a huge family and do the same thing.
You know what scares me? The people who are intelligent enough to realize there is more than enough people in this world already are the ones who will choose not to have too many kids, and the dumb ones that think they were put on this earth to procreate will keep on having more and more babies. Yikes.
