Lee Abbott Okeetee from Daytona 05 Show

If anybody wants an Abbott Okeetee, I'd try to get one directly from him at a show. All of his Okeetee babies were priced at $50. Others are selling 'Abott line' for $75 or more (kind of hard to believe.)
The Okeetees from Lee Abbot are very nice indeed . I also saw others and the original Abbots are the most stunning ( IMO) . A pitty that LA doesn't have a website ( at the time of the Daytonashow !) . :wavey:

that snake is bigger then my 04's... how do you people do it??? all but one of my snakes are freakin tiny...am i not feeding large enough food items...?

I started out feeding her every 3 or 4 days. And I think I only fed her 1 (maybe 2) pinkies, ever. She ate fuzzies for 2 or 3 months, and she's been eating hoppers for the last month and a half or longer, since about 19 or 20 inches in length. Now I feed her about every 5 days, roughly. In nature, I don't think they eat on a rigidly set schedule, so I don't beat myself up if I'm a day late or even a day early sometimes.

Here are 2 of my Miami Phases, both the same age. The larger one eats f/t, while the smaller one only will eat live. So he doesn't get to eat as often, since I don't live that close to the store that sells live feeders. He eats about every 7 to 10 days (a big hopper), usually every 7 days unless he's being fussy and won't eat, and she eats about every 4 days. See the difference? He hasn't eaten in about 7 days and looks slightly smaller for that reason, but he still weighs less than 90 grams with a full belly, and she's almost 150. They are related and both born in July 04. Yes, my 05 female Okeetee is almost as big as the 04 Miami male.

wow... i feed every 5 days... and she is on pinks... this is her dize compared to a quarter

she is small compared to yours... should she be on two pinks or a fuzz?

I'd have to say any 04 Corn should be eating fuzzies or hoppers by now. Pinkies are sort of the equivalent of 'baby food.'

I can't see how big the snake is exactly in the photos, but here are some photos to compare to. The first 4 photos are of my other 04 Miami male (getting ready to shed) eating a medium adult mouse. The last photo is the same Miami male pictured a few posts above, after eating a small to medium adult mouse today. It looked very big for him, but he killed and ate it with no problems. You can see he looks a lot 'fatter', after eating. If I have to drive to the store and buy live food for him, I'd rather give him the largest possible meal. One male is slightly larger than the other, but not that much. If your snake is almost as big as either of those, it should probably be eating hoppers. Hoppers really aren't that big.

no she is rather smaller...

here she is with my finger.. i have average female hands...my middle fingernail is almost as large as a dime (thats the best thing i can use to judge size) (my camera battery is dead, so i cant take another pic of her with a ruler or anything right now, this one was already on photobucket, she is the same size, if she is bigger it isn't noticeable)

also my 03 male is on mice, but i don't know is they are small medium or large, should he be on large? he is sort of larger then your 04s... he is longer but skinnier.

I'd say at least fuzzies. You may notice the snake starts growing then, too. Since the snake doesn't look that much larger than a hatchling (in the photo), I'd consider feeding every 3 to 4 days, if you want it to grow. It sounds like it's eating enough to sustain it, but not enough to allow for much energy for growth.

As far as the older snakes, they know what they can handle. You can always try a large adult, and more likely than not the snake will be able to eat it, if the snake is much over 30 inches or so. If you are talking about feeding live, then I would err on the side of caution.

thanks for the advice...the girl in the pic are an early 04... lol... and all my snakes eat f/t... i think it is safer, and i dont have to watch an animal suffer or die...Ill eat a hamburger but wont visit a slaughter house :)

Thanks, Knox. The first two Miamis pictured together were bred by Mark Damico, near Tampa.

Now that I think about it, I do try to feed live when they are small, because I've heard that can make a difference in the rate of growth. Others have posted they grow faster when fed live, they produce more and better eggs, etc. So it's possible that it makes a difference. When I said I feed that female every 4 days, I do take occasional breaks, maybe like 4-4-7-4-4-7-... or something like that. Every 4 days, consistently, would probably be overdoing it, considering she is no longer a hatchling. That's bad advice, and I should have been more clear.

One of my 04's

This is a 2004 female. She is actually big enough to breed this year but I'm not sure I want to do it. I'm showing the belly too because I think her belly is cool looking.

My 05's were pretty much eating fuzzies by about their 3rd meal. I've noticed sometimes that a baby corn that won't take a pinky will take a tiny fuzzy.

All my 05's are eating large fuzzies now and a couple are ready for hoppers.
