Al Sadd look to take their winning streak to six against hosts Al-Wasl in the ACL Elite.
Al Wasl and Al Sadd will face each other in their upcoming match at the AFC Champions League. The high voltage match is scheduled for 4th November. Both these teams are sitting comfortably on the top half of the West Regionβs table.
For those unversed, the AFC Champions League is divided into two regions (East and West) based on the clubβs parent origin. While the Qatari club (Al-Sadd) are currently in the third spot UAEβs pride (Al-Wasl) are in the fifth position.
Al-Sadd has played three matches so far and have won two of them. They have earned seven points in this Elite-level Asian competition. The Doha-based club drew their first game against Al-Ain (1-1). Since then they have managed to win all their matches, be it in the Champions League or their domestic league (Qatar Stars League).
On the contrary, Al-Wasl have found themselves on the losing end in their league games. They have lost back-to-back games against Khor Fakkan (4-3) and Al-Ain (4-2). So that fact might play on their minds even though both competitions (namely the AFC Champions League Elite and UAE Pro League) are different from one another.
Kick Off:
Monday, 4th November at 7:30 pm IST
Location: Zabeel Stadium, Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Haris Seferovic is a well-known name in the football world. The Swiss international has played across Europe in some major clubs including the likes of Real Sociedad, Fiorentina, and Eintracht Frankfurt among others. However, it was his spell in Benfica that will likely come to mind when talking about his performances.
Seferovic scored 57 goals for the Portuguese club in about 127 appearances. He was also prolific in the national colours. The Sursee-born player scored 25 goals for Switzerland in a career that spanned a decade.
Rafa Mujica has found his groove at Al Sadd. The former Barcelona B player spent six years in Spain playing for clubs like Oviedo, Villareal B, Extremadura and Las Palmas among others. Despite having latent talent he always went under the radar.
However, it was his two-year stint at Portuguese club Arouca where he found his true potential as a striker. He scored 28 goals in 57 appearances for the club. Following this he carried his form to his new home in Qatar. He is the second-highest goalscorer in the Qatar Stars League this season and is proving to be a handful for his opponents.
Al Wasl went behind to Vinicius Mello's seventh-minute strike, while Haris Seferovic drew the game level five minutes later. Jonas Santos put Al Jazira ahead six minutes into the second half before Ramon Mierez equalised with eight minutes left in regulation time.
Al Sadd, meanwhile, claimed maximum points in a 2-1 comeback home win over Al Rayyan in the Qatar Stars League. All three goals were scored after the break, with Trezeguet putting Al Rayyan in the lead midway through the second half. Mohammed Waad equalised within two minutes before Akram Afif scored an 89th-minute winner fr Al-Sadd.
The Wolf now turn their focus to the continent where their last game was a 1-0 home win over Persepolis, while Al Wasl secured a 2-1 win at Al Gharafa. The victory took them to fifth spot in the table with six points from three games, while Al Sadd are third with seven points.
