Lost Snake!!! Stuck in Couch!!!

When I say "lost" i mean lost. I dont know how this could have happened, but I was holding my 6 month old corn as I was on the couch watching tv. He then wriggled out of my hand and went between the crack in the cushions. I have spent the last hour looking for him in the couch and around the area but cant find him. I think he is still in the couch somewhere in the fabric and i dont know what to do! I think I may have to take the couch apart. Do you think he will ever just come out on his own? PLEASE HELP!!!

A food lure would be my first thought.

Plop a mouse (or two) a few feet from the couch and settle back and wait ......

This same thing happened to me... I let a friend handle one of my snakes. He didn't realize how carefully you have to pay attention to them and pretty soon i was freaking out tearing off the cushions and stuff. Eventually we (we meaning two strong boys, that couch was a terror) lifted the couch and kind of shook him out... it was a really hard task though. I think he buried himself in there as deeply as he could go.
Best of luck to you, if you can maybe enlist in some help. At least you know where he is... although that can be the most frustrating part.. knowing where your snake is but being in a pretty helpless situation.

My snake is so small too (16 inches) so he could be in the smallest place. This is so frustrating! And I am not sure if he can survive because he could be smashed up against something and cant move.

It's VERY unlikely he'll have got himself into a position he can't get out of.

Obvious things I suppose would be:

1. DON'T sit on the couch until he's found!
2. If you can't find him initially and are going to have to leave the room, make sure the room is sealed off as best you possibly can so at least you know he can only be in that room.

The reason I think he may have become stuck is that my couch reclines and I had to keep opening and closing the recliner to try to find him and that may had accidently trapped him somewhere. I also had tried to flip the couch over a couple times. I may have accidently killed him by doing this. :(

Man, that sucks. Don't manipulate the recliners any more. Those mechanisms are killers of small animals. I remember it being cited as a major cause of death for ferrets. I guess I'd take a human heat pad, and put it on the highest setting and leave it on a cushion. This way, the heat of the pad would be perceptible to the snake in the couch, even at a little distance. I would then put a shelter of some sort on the pad. I would insulate this shelter in a way that if the snake went in, he wouldn't be cooked by the pad's heat output. I guess I would also leave a prey item in the hide, regardless of when it last ate. Good luck.

Totally agree with Dean here. You don't want to be moving the internal parts of the chair. Best leave things still and quiet and hope a head pops out.

Good luck!

I feel like an idiot because i just got my snake a week ago to the day! Now I go and let him get lost. :headbang:

If he was hungary or thirsty, he wouldn't just stay put. He would go out and try to find food or water. Right? If this is true then I am hopeful.

Well, water won't get his attention.

However, wafting a mouse around near the couch and then laying it down nearby might do the trick (hence my first post). As Dean suggested, a heat source might also get him moving in the right direction.

Also, dim the lights as far as possible (so you can still spot him if he comes out obviously) - and keep the noise/movement down to a minimum.

Best of luck finding him!!

I once lost a yearling snake around november & found him in the springtime in the basement. He must have bruminated down there... he was quite slim but ended up ok. I never thought I'd see him again after he had been gone for a month.

I feel like I have to do something more. I dont want to just wait around for him to come out. To me, him coming out on his own seems like an unlikely scenario. He could be trapped in the cushions just waiting for me to free him! I want to do something more!

Just out of curiosity, did you actually see him crawl into the couch??

And if so, I think you best bet is to chill and wait because if you flip it over and backwards and did a thorough search and still can find him, he's deep inside and scare. And with out cutting the couch up, your're just going to have to wait.

Yes, I did see him go into the couch and I am 99% sure he is in there somewhere. There are just so many places he could be in there, that i dont think he will be able to find his way out on his own. And I really dont want him to die in there because then it will start to smell.

I don't know if it will help, but a friend once had a snake lost in his couch. After trying everything else we reached under it and made a yard long slit in the fabric underneath with scissors. It created a funnel like effect and the snake came sliding out. I hope you get yours back soon. I've only had my snake for a couple of weeks so I know I would be devastated if it were me.

Good Luck!!!!

I wish it were that easy. But my snake is somewhere in between the fabric or cushions and he is probly getting in deeper and deeper. He's been stuck in there for 8 hours now! this really sucks.

Something does not add up!:shrugs: i think your best bet is too just wait.
