Lost Snake!!! Stuck in Couch!!!

Well, he didn't come out overnight like I had hoped. So it looks like I am going to have to start digging in the couch.
 
Oh, I feel bad for you. I hope you can get your snake out. He will hopefully be okay, he's probably just curled up in a nice cosy section and is sitting there totally unharmed.

How far did you search? Did you "cut" in to your couch yet?

I know this isn't exactly an ideal thing to do, but I would rather destroy a piece of furniture than lose my pet.

Keep looking! If the snake comes out when you are not around, you won't have any idea at all where he's gone.

I have spent over four hours digging around in that couch looking for him. He must be in such a ghood hiding place.

I would rather have him come out on his own and find him a few weeks later somewhere else in my house.

It just doesn't look like i am going to find him.
 
Don't feel stupid!

Don't beat yourself up about it. I just got my snake a week ago and I lost him a couple days ago. . .

I found him because he came back to his tank and sat outside at the heat source. . . is there anything attractively warm in that room? :flames:
 
I have a heating pad under the couch to try to attract him. other than that, there are no real warm spots in my living room.
 
My friend lost a very skinny and young bloodred last september. Well he JUST found it last night. Dead, but fairly freshly dead. It wasn't even fully dried out yet and it was found in front of a space heater...

This gives me hope as I lost a 22" normal last october and he was almost chubby and freshly fed as I had been feeding him every four days for a while. I had not bothered looking for him for months but after seeing this tiny bloodred last soooooooo long I think I'll try a number of the "pop bottle traps" Who knows.... Maybe I'll luck out. It has definitely been cold enough in the house he could have brumated!

Good luck with your guy, I agree, don't beat yourself up about it, and you have a loooooooooooooooooong time to find him. What about trying a pop bottle trap or two near the couch?

take a glass coke bottle or any appropriately sized glass bottle, and put a feeder mouse in it. when the snake goes in and eats the mouse, he cant fit to get back through the neck of the bottle. the lump from eating the mouse prevents him from getting out of the bottle.

It's actually better to use a plastic bottle, cut the top "funnel" off and invert it into the main part of the bottle, then tape it back together. That way, when the snake goes in, he has a MUCH harder time trying to find the opening to come back out.
 
I haven't been on here that long but lost snakes seem to be a big issue that I see a lot. My friend back in Cali lost his 12' anaconda one day and we snake proofed his apartment because posting "Lost, 12 Foot Anaconda" flyers is the last thing neighbors want to see hanging around the complex. we sealed off all the vents, and blocked all the spaces under the doors, then turned down the heat. We left some heating pads around and searched all remaining warm spots and found him curled on top of the undercabinet dishwasher. If you still think he's in the sleeper sofa, I would invite a friend with a flashlight over, pull all the cushions off, checking each one, (open them up if there is a zipper.), then, get down on the floor with your flashlights and check all the mechanics before opening, open it up and remove the mattress (check it like the cushions.), Sofas are made to stand vertical on the arm for storage so I would flip it up with help and have something to rest the open bed frame on so it doesn't tweek. You'll notice the the back of the sofa is a panel, you can remove this and put it back on later with staples or small nails, or just push it against a wall :D This will open up the whole sofa for you to search, be sure to check the arms well as these are mostly hollow... Do you have a pic of the sofa? If you post it there may be other ways to take it apart even more.... Sometimes it pays to be in the furniture business.... run your fingers through the stuffing too after looking for a bulge, hope this helps and good luck...
 
well, im new here, but i've had lots of experience with lost snakes. when my snake has gotten in the recliner, i just wait it out. it has never stayed in there very long. if one of the snakes has been gone for a week or more, they will usually head for water, or basically the bathroom. the last time i lost my snake, it was in the bathroom about a week later. I wouldn't be worried about the snake dying in the couch because it will come out when it hungery. If you are no longer sure it is the couch, i would seal off the vents. One time my snake got in the vent and i had to turn the air way up to get it to come out. last summer my sister's baby milk was gone for about six weeks and i found it in my shower. they can go pretty long without food, so i wouldn't be to worried yet. And don't feet too bad about losing it right after you got it. My candy cane corn got in the printer a couple days after i got it.
I put the printer into a cooler and the next moring i found it!!! Good luck!
 
A few days ago I left the clips on the tank undone and when I went to go see the snake he was nowhere to be found. After two days of looking around the house I found him. Were renovating upstairs and he ended up getting his whole body stuck to a piece of duct tape. It took about an hour and a half to get him seperated from the tape. :\

If he was in the printer, couldn't you just see him and pull him out?

Duct tape really does fix EVERYTHING, even lost snakes. :)

I Found Him!!!

I FOUND HIM!!! I am so RELIEVED! :crazy02:

He was curled up under my couch on the complete opposite end of the part where he had escaped. But I am glad that he is safe in his cage enjoying a pinkie after his little adventure. :eatpointe:

Lucky you finding your snake. I can't believe I have a TINGE of hope now. I assembled four pop bottle traps and I'll bait them just before bed. I really don't know if I dare hope against hope considering it's been so long...

Yes the funnel type trap is what I meant. The idea is that snakes tend to crawl along edges and walls. It is difficult for them to find the opening in the very center of the pop bottle. Also if the trap is placed right against a wall it can help to funnel him in the center.

I don't know if I should use water or mouse as bait at this point though, so I went with a bit of both. Water droplets in the bottle as well as mice. Man I will be so triumphant <and much more carefull> if I do somehow find this snake!
