I don't know if I should use water or mouse as bait at this point though, so I went with a bit of both. Water droplets in the bottle as well as mice. Man I will be so triumphant <and much more carefull> if I do somehow find this snake!

I have heard that water will not attract them, but food will! Good luck!

Well here is a pic of my traps. Problem is that I can't afford to keep wasting all these mice! Here's hopin' it works. I am afraid that if he went into brumation then he won't be up and looking for food quite yet, it's only just starting to get warm here... Checked my records and he's only been gone four months.

That looks like four good traps! If you have to buy four pinkies to get your snake back, wouldn't it be worth it? Dont think of it as "wasting". I have heard of people finding thier snakes after much longer period or time, so there is hope! Good luck!

No luck :(

Any idea if I can leave the pinkies in there for another attempt tomorrow or am I supposed to put new ones in every frickin' night? Ug... I'm not that surprised though, as I said the odds are against me. He's been gone four months, it's been really cool in our house all winter, and it still is quite cold. If he brumated he's probably still down for a while yet..

i am really not sure. i think it should be okay to leave them in for at least a few days. maybe you could try flipping the pinkies over every night so the top doesnt get all dried out.

Are you really complaining about wasting the pinkies? Did I read that right?

When I had a hatchling escape I probably went through 200 pinkies trying to catch her. I had ten traps scattered around the house, and I put a new pinkie in each one every night. I did that for months until I ran out of pinks and then I cut fuzzies in half and used those.

One piece of advice someone gave me was to not use bait every night, let her get hungry for a few days and then set the traps. I don't know if that was good advice or not, I never caught her. :(

If he was in the printer, couldn't you just see him and pull him out?

he was really small and i took the top of and still couldn't see him. i really never knew there was so much hiding room in the printer.

I don't know if anyone mentioned this. If you get a snake stuck to tape (or to a glue mouse trap) poor veggie oil all over the snake and work it into the tape good. The snake will be slippery and mad~ but he gets to keep all/most of his scales when he comes off the tape!

Great idea! I don't even have to go to the pet store for that! lol

One thing that sucks is that he could have easily tried to slither into my rats cage and gotten eaten.

I have a deluxe three story cage for my rats. It is floor to ceiling type 6 1/2' tall, 2' front to back and 4' long. It is made with carpenters mesh so the snake could easily have crawled in looking to eat some of the babies and in turn gotten eaten by the adults. Ug...

Can you tell I was skunked again last night?
