Lucky little Rock Dove (Pigeon)

I woke up this morning like every other morning..that I have off..I entered my living/snake room..and greeted my little Macaw..and upon looking out my window I saw a little Rock Dove..or Pigeon as some people call them.
I watched this little guy because I thought he was kinda funny walking around in the road..mind you the only traffic really that we get besides the ocasional car are Large Loggin' Trucks leaving the Lumber mill that I live near..so I thought he was a crazy little guy..
then I notticed he came to the sidewalk and refused to jump up or fly away..but he walked to my driveway and walked right up onto the side walk..weird little bird was actually using the sidewalk..hmmm..then he turned and I saw that he was dragging one wing..I thought.
AHH! Poor guy has a broken wing!!..
So I rushed to get a sweat shirt on and went down stairs and outside..I approached him and he did not fly..he ran...
CRAP!..he is hurt..so I ran back inside to get my big fishing net and I chased him down and caught him..He didn't fight at all..
I reached in and grabbed him..and brought him inside.
All It took was me running in on my BF in the shower with my hands full of grey fluff and my eyes full of tears for Jeremy to give in to my need to Save this little guy..see..Jeremy thinks they are "Rats with Wings"..But I love 'em..
so we called the vet and the vet said..that yes. They would take him and when we left that they were to put him down..
WELL thats counter productive..
So we got the number for a lady in farminton ME who was an animal rehabilitator..Thankfully she was happy to take him in..
So here are the photos of the little guy..and I was given the chance to keep him if he didn't proove able to be released back into the wild..but I do have a VERY, VERY JELOUS Macaw..so it would never work..I couldn't do that to Micky..she said that she had some freinds who would be happy to take him if necessary..or she would keep him...either way..I am happy and I felt good about saving his little life..We did have to wrap his wing and he felt very skinny..we could feel his little chest bone..so she started to make up a formula that was high in protein to feed him along with a special diet..

hahaha..I hope..LOL..I'm pretty proud of how well the little guy did with the WHOLE thing..the capture, the waiting, the ride and the process of the getting his wing wrapped..he was a trooper!

No problem..I can't watch any animal suffer..I ran out of my house in my PJ's..I bet the neighbors thought I was gathering dinner!! HAHAH!:roflmao:

Really?...you don't have Pigeons??..weird. I couldn't really picture a town with out them..we have them all around here. I love to watch pairs walking around in the winter..they remind me of cute little old people..awee..

I remembered when I was in elementry school my dad was on a job doing something, I'm not sure what but it resulted in him having to remove a pigeon nest but it had an egg in it so he decided to bring it home. We put the egg in the incubator and hatched out the baby. I ended up raising him up into a very healthy pigeon. We kept him in a bird cage in the back and let him out when ever we were outside. I taught him to fly and to come when I had food or called his name. One night or early morning he must've figured out how to get out of his cage and our best bet was he saw a flock of wild pigeons and flew off with them.

It was a fun experince though and I'd do it again. Very cool birds, very under estimated. Good job saving that guy and hope you enjoy your time with him!

I have only ever been afraid of one bird in my life time..and that was a rooster at my uncles farm..he attacked me while I was feeding the llamas and goats..I had to baby sit the farm over the weekend and everytime I went in thereafter that..I had a broom and I whacked that bird..he really wanted to kill me!!..he was a jerk.
But I have had my Macaw put holes through my lip and he bites pretty hard..but I have never been afraid of him..
Are you really afraid of birds?..and if so..how come?..if you don't mind me asking..

haha..you know..I just realized That I don't eat much of any bird anymore.what the heck? Its mostly just buffalo,Cow, Deer, rabbitt.and well..hmmm..Buffalo..I really can't wait for Thanksgiving..so I can have some TURKEY! YUM.

Mmmm...buffalo! We have a place here called Ted's that has THE.MOST.AWESOME. buffalo burgers and steaks. Even the kids love it. Elk, however, is my favorite game meeat. And grouse are my favorite fowl...to eat. All other birds are evil and must die except for one crippled little guy that lives down in Florida. He rocks!
