Quetzal - Hypo stripe corn; shortened form of Quetzalcoatl, which means feathered serpent

Tanith - Hypo stripe corn; means serpent lady

Veil - Ghost Honduran milk snake; rearranged the letters in evil, because he bites a lot, plus his colors remind me of a beautiful, elegant veil.

Gwillan - Sunkissed corn; I got this name from a book series, forget the name of it

In the order I acquired them:

Binx - my kitteh, whom I got when he was only two months old, abandoned at Petsmart. He's black, and I got him during the month of October, so I named him after the cat in the Halloween movie Hocus Pocus.

Spyro - my first snake, an okeetee* corn. It was just the first name that popped into my head. I wanted something a little more original, but it just seemed to fit him somehow. The name comes from the psx game, Spyro the Dragon. *supposedly

Teyla - crested gecko, my first gecko ever. I picked her up on craigslist, plus her tank and stand, for a good price. I have a hard time naming female animals because there are so few female names I actually like. Teyla was the first name that popped into my head, comes from a character in Stargate Atlantis.

Sheppard - gargoyle gecko, named him after a character in Stargate Atlantis, since I already had Teyla. Lives up to his name, as the character on the show tends to nearly commit suicide a few times while trying to save others' lives, and this little gecko likes to take flying leaps into thin air.

Ronon - normal ball python, who tried to bite me within the first five minutes of receiving him from fedex. XD Named after the character from Stargate Atlantis, who can be quite aggressive when riled up. My Ronon isn't really mean though, just a nervous little guy. He's calmed down a lot, though still strikes occasionally.

Argento - Costa Rican boa constrictor. Originally I was trying to find a name related to his head shape and coloring, like fallen leaves. I looked on thesaurus.com, and also looked around online for words in foreign languages, but just couldn't find anything suitable. I finally decided to try 'silver' because he has a splash of silver in his eyes. Silver in Latin is argentum, which reminded me of argento (Maximus named one of the horses on his breastplate that, in Gladiator). Turns out argento is Italian for silver.

I've always enjoyed pets, but usually only had one or two at a time (one tank of goldfish, two parakeets, a cat). Never would have imagined I'd have five reptiles, and I'm not exactly done yet. ;)

lets see theres..

CHRIS- our snow he came with that name.

BUTCH CASSIDY- our amel she gets butchy after eating so my hubby named her that

SUNDANCE KID- our butter motley cause hes yellow and we got him when we got BUTCH

TABASCO- our normal just cause we could =]

SPEED RACER- the striped anery cause shes faster then the sped of sound

our R. Okeetee has no name yet cant think of anything for her as of yet..

BLITZ- or new kitty cause hes speeds around super quick

SALTY our black cat we saved from a blizzard when he was a baby looks like he had a little salt shaken on him

DOMINO our white cat has spots on his head like a domino..

lol that is all for now!

My daughter name her snake (it's mine now or it would of been dead years ago) Lenny after Lenny Kravitz. Never knew the guy existed! After that I bought a male butter and SHE decided (WHY she has rights to name it?? Pfft beats me!) Lemon because it's going to be yellow. Then I pick up a pair of snow strips and (I) decided to stick with the ""L's"" and name the female Lace and the male Lance. If I get another male, it's going to be Luke and if it's a female, Lucile. And that's my story.

I named Copper because when I first saw her that's what popped in my head. And people tell me she/he doesnt look like copper but that really had nothing to do with it. Lol but the other animals the iggy is Allis chalmer which is an old tractor. I know redneck but that's me. Marley the eskimo spitz my mom named after Bob Marley. Esme is named after a twilight character. Chevy was named after a vehicle obviously..lol cause he's gray and looked like the primer-ed camaro I was working on. So that it all the babies I have... For now anyway. ;-)

I just saw "How to Train Your Dragon" and LOVED it so now I want to name something after someone in it. Although I think naming a snake "Toothless" is insulting to the snake!

I like the Grunkles in the movie. Maybe I'll call my hubby that next time he pisses me off!

Devon

I'll start with my fur babies:

Hermione - My eldest cat: Named after the Harry Potter character. I was crazy about Harry Potter books when I was 14.

Blossom - My second eldest cat: My dad actually named her Fart Blossom because she had gas so bad when we first got her due to being starved by previous owner.

Gwydion - My now gone (RIP) Turkish Angora. He died when he was a little over a year old from feline HCM: "Gwydion, in the Welsh Mabinogion, a son of the goddess Dôn, a master of magic and poetry and a somewhat dubious character."

His name has nothing to do with the who he's named after. I just like the way the name sounds.

Aria - My American Chinchilla Rabbit: We all should know what an aria is. If not google it. But I named my rabbit after a character from "The Symphony of Ages" books.

Now for the scale babies:

Jack/Jackie- Is actually my boyfriend's Cali kingsnake: When we first seen him he reminded us of the snake in the movie "The Nightmare Before Christmas" that eats the Christmas tree. But since this snake has no name we just decided to call him Jack after Jack Skeleton.

Jack hasn't been sexed and I think he may be a she. If so Jack will become Jackie as we sometimes call him that anyway.

Sylvara - My first corn snake: I just really love this name. It comes from the "DragonLance" books. There is a dragon who takes the form of an elf named, Silvara.

I actually play World of Warcraft and wanted to name my Blood Elf that but someone already had the name. So I changed the i to y and it just stuck.

Sigyn - My second corn snake: "Sigyn (Old Norse "victorious girl-friend") is a goddess and wife of Loki in Norse mythology."

I thought the meaning fit her since she overcame almost dying. She was in very bad shape when I got her.

Jormungand (Jörmungandr) - My second Cali kingsnake: "In Norse mythology, Jörmungandr is a sea serpent and the middle child of the giantess Angrboða and the god Loki. According to the Prose Edda, Odin took Loki's three children, Fenrisúlfr, Hel and Jörmungandr, and tossed Jörmungandr into the great ocean that encircles Midgard. The serpent grew so large that he was able to surround the Earth and grasp his own tail. When he lets go, the world will end. As a result, he received the name of the Midgard Serpent or World Serpent."

I named him this because he was so mean when I got him. He is also getting pretty big so I guess I picked a good name!

P.s.
If you couldn't tell I'm a total fantasy and mythology freak!

Hm some really good names here! Personally I didnt name my corn, his previous owner did but the name was cute and the explanation made sense!

Checkers- my first and only normal corn snake (so far), he was named checkers because the scales under his belly are black and white and in a checker board pattern!

i have quite a few snakes so here goes there's.. Harriet , jasper, rusty, Amelia, junior, Tommy, Louis, and Celia all corn snakes age ranging from 11 years to 2 weeks old i know the names are nothing out there but its like a baby when you look at it you know in your heart there name same goes for me with my snakes

I have gone with a theme of names related to my favorite bands.

Hunter - English setter; named after a member of AFI.

Jade - normal corn snake; named after a member of AFI.

Ambellina (I usually just call her Belle) - Baird's rat snake; named after a character from the Armory Wars, the comic written by Coheed and Cambria.

And my two adopted kitties, named by by my friend and I didn't change their names.
Bucky - DLH; named after Buckminster Fuller, the inventor of the geodesic dome and for whom the "buckyball", a 60 carbon sphere was named. (a pretty nerdy name, but hey were were taking organic chemistry when my friend originally adopted him :))

Elmer - DSH; not a clue where his name came from.

Enki: Our first snake, a lavender male. The name is a Sumerian god.
Ninhursag: Commonly known as Nina, our normal female. The name is taken from the Sumerian goddess who is Enki's consort (fitting, as they were bought to be a couple)
Angel: Snow female. Named because I was watching Angel at the time.
Kusanagi: Ultramel anery, sold to us as an ultramel ghost. Kusanagi = Ghost in the Shell.
Darque Idris:Originally, Darque after my CoH/WoW/RIFT character. Idris added to her name because she is very fond of 'watching' Dr. Who.
Nox: She came to us named Equinox...we shortened it a bit.
Kash: Originally Kashmir, again shortened.

Other pets...our ferrets are Pale, Jen and Bella (named for our CoH characters), our dog is Maya (named when we got her) and our cat is Boo (for Monsters, Inc., named because my bf made a trail of food to show her where her bowls were)

And when we eventually have hatchlings...I'm 'borrowing' the idea of naming the first hatchling either Riker or Majel (Number One) for Star Trek...and the rest of the first clutch will have Trek-related names ;)

Our classic yearling corn...Argus...after the Greek guardian of the gods with 1000 eyes. Why? Just because it was cool and my son (who's snake it is) was reading Percy Jackson at the time.

Our 3yr old Ghost corn...Crystal...because my daughter is 6, it is her snake, and her patterning is like platnium jewelry with diamonds.

Our cat..not really creative...Dusty...short for Dusty Road...he is a rescue found on a dirt road out in the country and he was INFEStED with mites and lice when we found him...leading to a further "dusty" look.

My snakes are...

Norbert - Brazilian rainbow boa; named after the dragon in Harry Potter

Lyra - Hypo Lavender corn; named after Lyra Belacqua in His Dark Materials, name also of a constellation

Pantalaimon - Hypo Lavender corn, future mate of Lyra; named after Lyra's daemon in His Dark Materials

Lyra! and Pantalaimon! That is too funny. I considered Lyra briefly (before my boyfriend shot it down) for my corn snake because I like the Golden Compass and because it would go with my dog "layla" and my cat "lilly" (who we've never called Lilly except for the first day we got her). It's a good thing I didn't go with Lyra, though, because I'm pretty sure he's a boy.

So that's not too huge of a coincidence, except for I frequently call my snake, "Pan" and am always reminded of the book.

I should read the sequels. :)

Also, huge Harry Potter fan right here, so I approve hardheartedly of Norbert.

I'm loving all of the names and their meanings, or how they came about.
