Momma Rat Fostering Wild Rat Babies!

Just wondering, how can you tell that that little guy is going to be a rex? Were his siblings old enough to have hair? He looks so tiny!

Just curious! I've bred rats before, but only raised a few to adulthood. My favorite baby, a Black male Dumbo, was HUGE. Males just get so big.. and I like them better than females, so for me it was easier to keep fts in the end (I'm also slightly allergic).

Dumbos are so cute, and hairless are so WARM! I always thought Rexs would be cute. Give us some updates!!

Here is an update on the babies. The rex baby opened both eyes early this morning and the other one has one eye open so far. Momma can't run away from them now! The wild rat babies are cuter than ever and they should have their eyes open soon as well.

Well the wild baby rats' eyes are opening. The other 2 babies are almost completely weaned. All is going well with my rats!
Last night, my brother brings me a baby white mouse that is just about to open its eyes. He said his friend gave it to him to give to me. Other than that, he didn't know where it came from or anything.
I didn't know what to do with it for a moment. It was the middle of the night and I was still groggy. I had an idea though. I know rats normally will attack, kill and eat mice but my rats have been quite the exception to any "normal" rat rules. So, I put the baby mouse in my hands and lowered it down, just to let my rats sniff it. They sniffed it, then started cleaning it. They acted like it was just another baby. I left it with them, not sure what they would do to it in the middle of the night. I did know they wouldn't kill it, since they have tried to take care of f/t mouse pink mice (was seeing if they would eat a pink the snakes didn't eat).
This morning, the baby mouse was nursing with the rest of the babies. Never have I heard of such a thing, let alone seen it with my own eyes. My rats will take in anything and treat it like their own!

Pictures for sure!!!
I would def be holding back some or all of the females of that rat mama's line.
I used to breed hamsters and its just shocking how fast you can breed good temperament into rodents.....
After all the threads on here about people having trouble getting colonies started you might have a market for your good mama line!!!!!

Here is Squeekers! This little thing likes to squeak constantly when its nursing. It is sooo tiny too. I caught it nibbling on some lettuce, even though its eyes aren't even open. Maybe there is something wrong with it? I have no idea. I do know that it holds on to momma rat's teat for dear life...little piggy! Momma will jump up and down to greet me and that mouse is still stuck on her.

I would love to see a picture of that... :roflmao:

The baby rats are all playing with eachother. I love to hold the little rex baby because its hair is so soft! Feels like one of those mohair teddy bears that you just want to pet for forever.

The little mouse didn't make it and the little wild rats well, they were somewhat tame but kept finding ways to try to escape. I eventually had to feed them to the boas. One of the rats the momma rat had just had her first litter. The little girl turned out to be a beautiful silvery gray n white and has wonderful momma skills just like her momma. I am going to try to save all her babies to see what color they turn out. They will be my future breeders and possibly pets to one of my friends. I want to use the silvery blue color in my lilac/blue dumbo rex breeding project.
