Moonlight bulbs

I have a red one just for after feedings. I leave it on for the night of feeding, it gets a bit chilly in my room and my goofy snake doesn't always go by it uth. That light doesn't seem to bother him a bit.

If the snake is not going by the UTH then it is too warm for him and he heads to the cooler side. This is why you have a UTH and thermostat, so the 85° on the warm side will gradiate down to about 75° and he can choose where he wants to be.

What do you have the thermostat set to?

As far as lights go, I am an opponent. Too many risk factors.

I use this from Lowes "Mood-lites 75-Watt Medium Base Black Decorative Incandescent Light Bulb" when I need to add heat without light. Used them for decades. I like the flexibility to adjust the heat with a dimmer. They barely produce any visible light and no harmful UV's. I prefer them over the red and blue bulbs sold for reptiles. I even use a 15 watt black lite bulb made for aquarium hoods for small terrariums.
I use them for lizards, frogs and arboreal snakes mostly and usually their main heat source.

The probe is on the glass reading °87.

This snake just prefers to hang out by its water dish. I have probes on all the glass in all 3 of my snakes vivs, they all read between °85-°89.

Nor would he freeze if you hand was 40°, but these are the optimal temps proved again and again for corn snake keepers and breeders who have hundreds of years and snakes behind them to prove the theory.

Where exactly are the UTHs and the thermometer and thermostat probes located for each?

You say he stays at the cool end, that right there tells me the warm end is too hot for him. He is cold blooded, he won't always be looking for a warm spot unless he has eaten, they usually go for the warm side to help digest.

What is the harm in making the warm end 85° and the cool end 75° and giving it a try? How big is the tank anyway, if the temperatures are all basically the same throughout the viv the temp is not forming a good gradient from one end to the other. All of my 20L tanks hold the heat just fine and the cool end at the optimal temp.

The probe is on the glass. There is no harm keeping the temperature at °85. I said the temperature is reading °87 on the glass , only °2 warmer than you are suggesting. It may fluctuate to°90 generally °85-°87 though. The uth is barely warm to the touch😀. My question originally was about the moonlight bulb, for night viewing only, like 3 hrs a night.
