That is exactly what I do, it seemed logical to me to do it that was if there is come poop ;)
OK, my turn to open my mouth to put my foot in it...
what I meant was:
That is exactly what I do, it seemed logical to me to do it that way if there is some poop

All I'm saying is, as consumers, we can choose to pick better service...
Oh sod it.
Some companies are better at clean/healthy lookin rodents than others, so go with the better ones that are still cheap enough.

Wow, after re-reading I realize that sounded harsh. That wasn't my intent.
Cheers.

Actually, didn't sound harsh to me at all. Got me thinking as always. I'd still have to interject that rinsing off the meat processed from a cow or pig is different than rinsing off 1000 mice for my order. (I know not every one would need to be rinsed . . . )

I've had my very small colony of mice get out of hand because I didn't need all the pinkies at the given time. I've killed my own (use the snapped neck method as opposed to CO2), and the urine and feces on the counter is enough to prove to me that the amount of feces I've ever found in a bag of frozen feeders is very inconsequential.

You are 100% correct that it is a matter of to each his own. Where you feel comfortable spending your money for the product is all it comes down to. Depending on the amount you need to buy, your experience may be different. Purchasing a few hundred a year compared to a few thousand a year may lead to different experiences in quality regardless of the supplier you use.

Thanks everyone.

I did not see the name of any company on the bags. I think they are produced by the petstore or a local person. I checked a few bags to see if it was just one bag but I saw multiple droppings in all the bags, (5 mice to a bag.) There have never been droppings from the other brand I use. I wouldn't mind one here or there by accident, but it seemed like no effort was made to clean the mice. I'll check out that other thread as well. Thanks again.

My snake eats fuzzy frozen mousecicles right now but will soon be needing the next size up if there is one from that brand. My pet store does not carry the next size up from that brand. They have their own.

So I looked at their brand. I noticed in the plastic bags that I could see mousecrap frozen to the bodies of some of the mice. Is that normal? I would think it would be unsanitary. I did not buy the mice, I bought another container of fuzzies, which are all packaged individually and I have never seen mouse droppings in the packaging. I am guessing that I will not be purchasing the frozen mice at the petstore near me. I was thinking about Big Apple Herp. Should I expect to see mouse droppings with the frozen mice?

Thanks.
No there should not be any as the dead mice cant poop. It is propper to kill the mice before packaging them for sale, then freeze the dead mice, which will be clean and dry.
If a mouse is wet or dirty from its confinement, then it took to long to go and there is a flaw in the system.

I think i'd be more worried if there was nothing in there with them, maybe they have been without food and water for a couple of days so they don't make a mess and then they may not be as healthy.

Okay, (sip of coffee first), the way people who breed a small amount to sell, and how the really big rodent companies do things are different. From websites they say, "Rodents are humanely euthanized and blast frozen to maximize freshness". CO2, and then blast/flash freezing is different then snapping the neck, or even making a CO2 baggy, then putting them in a regular freezer. I have 300 mice in my freezer right now, 3 different sizes in 3 different bags. I don't see one turd in there. No urine stains either. (Just some extra broken pieces.) I might actually buy from somewhere else next time to get them vacuum sealed. Its not that I'm that picky, or need to be, but when I have options (all online for about the same price), I'm going to go with what is better. The cheapest sources of mice for me, other than breeding my own, is the big online breeder companies. The frozen mice at my local pet store sometimes smell a little and have substrate or even a little feces on them, which I understand. No biggy. They also cost 3 times more. When I need one big mouse for my one adult, I go get one of those because its convenient for me and its fresher than buying in bulk. But when I buy 3 months worth for a big group, then online (which is flash frozen, etc) is way cheaper (and better). BTW, the most expensive way to go is the arctic mice from Petsmart which are nasty when dethawed.

BTW, the mice I have that look so hygenic, have nice milk belts and look healthy and not dehydrated at all. Saving the money to buy in bulk is hard, but it saves A LOT of money. If I only had one or two snakes, it might not be worth it. :shrugs:

hehe, thanks Kim, you have just given me the excuse to give to justify me getting a couple more corn...

Woo hoo! There you go! Warning though - its addictive. Theres always another morph you'll want.

so true!
Also, today I went to the petstore and ended up holding a blue tongue lizard... aww, so cute!

Ooo I like those as well. They're supposed to make nice pets. Oooh, don't get me thinking about lizards too. I have no more room! Well, a hatchling or two more I can fit. :)

oh no...pretty soon you'll have to create a "herp room" in the house!

a little poo or urine in a bag of frozen mice doesnt bother me. i expect that after being killed, that they would defecate. i just rinse the mouse off and feed it to my snakes. i also make sure to wash my hands after handling the mice and the snakes. now if there's A LOT of poo and substrate in with the mice and the mice smell bad or look beat up and skinny, then i worry. it just shows that the company maybe didnt care too much about their rodents.

and i agree with the comment made about the petsmart frozen mice. i got those once and ended up throwing away half of them. they were puny and smelled really bad after only being in the freezer for only a week and then being thawed. i wonder if they had been dead awhile before they actually froze them. or if they had been refrozen a few times. they looked decent, clean, individually packaged, but just stunk as bad as a regurge!
