that is very nice, I'm not surprised he's in the tightest spot he could find.

Not too often I see vivs with lights, is it for display purpose's? It looks like a black light, disco snake! lol.

I DON"T LIKE IT!!!,hey your the one that wanted a reply! :grin01: Just kidding,it looks very nice.I don't have the time to keep a bunch of naturalistic vivs clean,so my snakes are in a rack. Most of the corns I've seen seem to stay hidden for most of the day anyway. :shrugs: I'd love to set one up for an ETB,but I don't have the time and I'm running out of room! :sobstory:

thanks Guys that was a collection for over 2 years of stuff from our geckos. We no longer have them and decided to get a bigger viv and set it up nice since its in the LR of the house
the grapevine is Holly's fav place she loves it in there

No kidding!! You definitely need a thermostat, like ASAP.

But the viv is pretty.

But that is WAY WAY WAY too hot.

holy hot... I didnt even look at that... indeed something needs to be done about that, yeow!

My thoughts, exactly. 'Tis much too warm.

holly tayls, if you would like to know the appropriate temps, or how/what to do, ... just ask... or do a search on the forums.:)

RE: the temps I posted that in this thread http://cornsnakes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=56701
that part is all sorted out "When I got home I checked the rheostat and found out that it was turned off. the dimmer switch that I bought for it is the push on/off and not just the dial. you have to push it on and then you can dial it up or down.
There are 2 outlets on it ONE is live and the other controlled by the switch
the flourescent hood light is plugged into one and the UTH into the other contrilled by the switch. the wife wanted to move it to a new location out of view and unplugged everything and plugged them back in in reverse. D/T the fact that you cannot "dim" a flourescent light there was no indication until I tore it all apart and realized it.
Have dialed it down last night and now the "on glass" temp is at 86.2 while the temp inside the hide is at 78.2

Will still use the thermostat though when it arrives.."

Thanks! ... and from another Buckeye.... I did a search but the threads were numerous and I found lots of info on temps in general but missed anything about the onglass temp -vs- substrate level temps

Thanks though!!!! Any other input or advice?

You have to measure the temp at the hottest place the snake can get to- because you don't want him to get burned. So on the glass.

got it. I did that when I got the new viv. I bought a 2nd thermometer and taped the probe directly on the glass before I put anything else in the viv. THEN I put in the substrate and everything else. Thanks! I really appreciate it.!!!

taped the probe directly on the glass

don't feel picked at by any means... placing the probe under there on the glass should be sufficient & checking that it is still in place now and then should be just fine. Please do not use tape in your viv, it's possible the tape could come loose and become stuck to your snake... tape is bad news for a snake.

Not to disagree with Lore, but to indicate some options . . . :)

Electricians tape and painters tape don't tend to stick overly strong . . . especially AFTER they've already been stuck to something else. I have very successfully taped my thermostat probe to the bottom of my glass cages using electricians tape being sure not to have any edges sticking up. :shrugs:

I definitely would not use masking tape, duct tape, packing tape, etc.

Great looking Viv!! . . . and it appears that I don't have to comment on the 128* temperatures!

Not at the moment.;) Seems you have things (with the temp) taken care of and that you are going in the right direction.:)

Sorry Lore wasnt even thinking about that part that I put in.
It is actually taped down with a washable/reusable screen protector from my Clie. It is not an adhesive but more like a window cling (only sticks to clean glass). I cut it into an oval and then placed a small (bandaid) pad in the center that covers the probe. Its stuck directly to the glass and there is no expised, wrinkled or kinked edges.
