MY planted fish tank

I got mine from world of fish. That's where i get most of my fish stuff from. Ill look around at some of those shrimp, but like you said, they are probably pretty expensive..

I got a little java moss from tom, so if that starts growing I'll be fine, but if it doesn't I'll let you know!

Any Time Mike..
WOF is a great place but yeah they are pricey.. there are a few other shops in our area though. Wetword over in Eagan and I havent been to this place but its called A Wet Pet in apple valley.
I am currently undoing my 55 planted tank. it became to over grown and is suffering from old tank syndrome, this tank has been setup here for years with regular water changes and started to slowly crash on me. I am planning on starting from scratch as well on it.

LOL, yeah you got a VERY little bit of java moss from me. Sorry about that, but I threw out half of mine in a tank cleaning when I was just disgusted with how full it had gotten with thread algae. I mean it was a real clotted up mess. I snipped you off a few threads that I know should spread for you, but it might take awhile to get much from that.

Pictures are up again, it really looks great! You've got a lot of variety going on there.

EDIT- Forgot to tell you the names of those plants.

Looks like you used the sagiteria (grass like), hornwort (brownish red and green frilly one), water wisteria (the low lying light green one with 'jagged' leafed one), mexican oak leaf (tall one whose leaves are like a long lobed oak), bacopa (next to the oak leaf tall straight growing plant), anubia (plant by itself on the wood) java moss and riccia moss (also on the log- riccia is the one that keeps branching in twos endlessly) and baby tears on the gravel.

Thanks! the anubia has already started growing roots.. well im guessing they're roots. the shrimp are all over that Riccia moss too! a little piece of the baby tears floated under the drift wood and started growing too.

Those baby tears are a pain in the butt to tie down, lol. I just completely buried my first 3 and they sprung out like a hydra all over the place.
That anubia had a rough start in my tank, I cut almost all it's leaves off and it came back though.

its going good! my cabomba and hornwart were growing like crazy so i cut them really short. i don't think I've seen noticeable growth in any other plants, except that anubia, but only the root part on that one.

i got a new plant called peacock fern.. i knew it was a non-aquatic plant but it was cheap(1$), it looked cool, and i figured it would live for a while before it started to die on me.. My mystery snails have been all over the thing! every time i go upstairs to my room they are both just hanging out in the plant. its pretty funny because they are big snails, and its a little plant! ill get a picture of it soon.

My shrimp and snails keep digging up the baby tears, so i just buried like 3/4 or the darn thing under the substrate.

one of my prego platies had some baby's yesterday i think.. i took most of them out, but there are still a few crafty one's roaming around the tank.

I think that's everything i can think of right now.. haha

oh, and i took a lot of the leaves off the Mexican oak leaf.. a lot were dying, but a few have started growing on the top so i think it'll make it.

You're having much of the same experiences that I had!
The babytears I did the same thing. I think that's best just bury them. They came up for me and haven't slowed down since.
The mexican oak leaf I really didn't think would make it. If you look at my pictures, it's just recently that it's started coming in. At first the bottom leaves were just melting away, so I just kept cutting off the tops to plant and throwing out the bottom. It did take eventually! My cabomba isn't growing very fast, but it is kind of in the shade of some others, so that's probably all that is.

My cabomba is right under a 20watt light, so that's probably why its growing so fast..

If you look at the pictures, it still has a few inches to grow till it gets to the top.. well when i cut it down today, it grew about 1 1/2 inches past the top of the water so part of it was floating at the top! that's come crazy growth!

hornwart didn't have THAT much growth, but i decided to cut it a little anyways.

You probably know this already, but everything you cut off that hornwort and cabomba, you can put right in the gravel and it will root. Double your plants!

yeah that's what the one's on the left side by the filter are from.. i took out most of the main large plant though.. wanted them to start small. Space is kinda limited in there and i don't want the tank to look too clustered right now.. still kinda deciding if i like the way things look the way they are, or if i should move some things around a little.
